Hello

I've been reading this forum for numerous years and, finally, am dipping my feet in the water! I appreciate the benefits that an informative website and thoughtful forum can offer the public. I've been coming to Playa del Carmen from the Midwest since 2002, when my brother coaxed me down for a visit. At the time, I was surprised at how lively the "quiet little fishing village" actually was, and am now blown away by the pace of growth (both good and bad). I remember when locals raced on horseback down an unpaved 5th Ave, not that long ago! My husband and I now own property here and spend 2-3 months per year in Playa. We are learning Spanish and have made many wonderful friends, for all over the globe, especially from Mexico. We have learned much about ourselves and others from being here. Our favorite local hang-outs are La Cueva del Chango, Fusion, and La Tarraya. I come to play.info for any news and especially enjoy learning about local and environmental issues, and would enjoy learning more about musical and/or visual art events. Thanks!

Welcome! I wish I could escape the Midwest for Playa a couple of months a year! That sounds great!
