El Dorado Royale
We were in PDC @ Riu Playacar the end of June. The resort was fine and PDC was great... unfortunately we were only there 4 days and it rained every minute of every day we were there which basically ruined the trip. We made the best of it but it was not what we had hoped. We've been trying to get back asap, we were invited to go w/ friends to El Dorado Royale two weeks ago and we passed because everything we had heard was negative. They were not happy w/ El Dorado reasons: beach was "man-made", ocean had lots of seaweed, needed reservations 2 days ahead for dinner and transportation, music at pool was very slow (they had hoped for lively music) and food at asian restaurant at resort made them all sick. Another problem was that it is far away from PDC, long cab ride that costs $40.00 rt. I hate to sound negative, this is just what we were told. We really liked Playa, and there is probably not a "perfect" AI for anyone, I think you just have to find what you like best and go with it. This board seems to be a great source of info!!! Good Luck!

I was at El Dorado Royale for the day during the first week of August. I didn't notice a "smell" but I wasn't impressed by the resort overall. The beach was very rocky, the crowd was young (I am in my early 30s), and the restaurants seemed crowded with slow service. I think El Dorado Spa is the better of the two for overall ambiance. It is smaller but the service and beach are better. You could always opt for Hidden Beach Resort, the 3rd resort in their chain, if you don't mind the nudity. The service, staff, just about everything is fabulous there.

el dorado royale
I just recently returned from my stay at the El Dorado Royale. Their accomodations deserves the 5 star rating; however, the food SUCKED. The transportation accomodation was adequate and should be upgraded to provide better service to its guests.
The management of the resort needs to hire new chefs and change the menu. No one likes to order pizza and get undercooked crust with cold cheese and pepperoni. :-? |

el dorado royale
We stayed here is July and would return in a heartbeat. The beach is rocky but you still enter the water in alot of spots and it is not rocky, yes there is seaweed but hey its the ocean. It is not man made beach. There is man made pool in the ocean by rocks. There are at least 6 pools . The rooms were fine. The food was good, all meals are ala carte which is nice you can pick what food you want. Breakfast was ala carte or buffet. The service was great also. Free transportation to Playa on 2 nights aweek (not sure of dates). We found no smell behind the rooms as people have stated before. I trully recommened it.
