Trip report dive trip to Egypt
We arrived after a fairly quiet flight in Hurghada where a sandstorm made visibility rather bad. As soon as we were out of the plane we had sand in our mouths already. Couldn’t go to the hotel in Safaga directly since suitcases were missing. Turned out that on check-in they had been sent to Sharm El Sheik to where the plane was going afterwards. Bad thing was that important medicine was in one of the bags.
Haven’t seen much of the area yet and will go to sleep now since I have a very bad headache. The others are still over at the dive shop drinking a beer. We heard that due to the sandstorm the boats could not leave today but a very early boat with russians on board had already left Hurghada. The boat sank, everybody saved and the tale is that the 16 people were in a small boat with a bottle of vodka… ![]() Will not post much this week since internet is fairly expensive and I will most probably not have much time for posting anyway. |

Well, just a short entry like as I wrote before: using the internet is rather expensive and our days are full anyway.
After having found out the first evening that the food at the hotel is rather poor (no spices, no salt - it just feeds us) we found out this morning that for breakfast they do not seem to have enough cups. So eating breakfast is rather funny as you can play the game ‘which is the next person to explode’ (being mad). ![]() The dives yesterday were not that much fun since we all had problems with how much weights we have to take into the water and it was very windy with rough water. Today it was calmer and it was nice to see the view of the land behind the hotels. Basically there is nothing but dust. It is all very even and then suddenly you have the hills. I will post pics of that next week. The water in the place where we dove today was all turqouise and blue and green. Beautiful colours. Diving today was much more exciting but on the first dive I came up like a rocket without being able to make my safety stop. On the boat I found that I had lost one of my weight-bags which are in my jacket. Fortunately two guys went back in and found it…. I have some beautiful pics from today… so - stay tuned. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() But I can show you a crocodile fish next week. Saw my first one today! *woohhhooo* The towel game is the same one everywhere: putting the towel on the chair to 'reserve' it...Today a snorkelling boat with russians on board came to the dive site where we had just surfaced. When the snorkellers swam over to the roof they stood up on it instead of swimming over it. You should have heard our two boats... yeeling and whistling at them to get the hack off the reef.... ![]() ![]()

Went two really beautiful dive sites today. On the second one I saw my first crocodile fish *yay*
My buddy didn't see it although I was taking pics, showed it to him and afterwards he said he hadn't realized this was a fish. ![]() There are so beautiful fish here. Lots of blue-dot rays, first turtle today and lots of fish I have never seen before. Went in with my new external flash for the first time this afternoon but I still have to learn a lot. On most pics yo don't even see that I used a flash at all. ![]() Btw: dinner was better yesterday. The cook even used SALT! And this morning we did have cups on our table. The people coming later had problems again since there were either no cups or no coffee. More to come not sure when though since we might go to Hurghada tomorrow (have to buy a pin at the HRC for my chum Bob in Winnipeg) and on saturday we will have a barbeque at the dive shop- |
