Giant booksellers

Talking with some friends from London I found out that so many independent book and record shops have been wiped out by the big corporations and supermarket chains.

Sad that you can't get that many books on less profit-making subjects besides the mainstream big money makers.

Is terrorism the answer?

(course it isn't, silly...)

On the rare occasion I want something brand new and more unusual I head to McNally Robinson here in Saskatoon. They have a little cafe with great food and live music quite often, and a great selection of books, magazines, gifts, music, DVDs, etc.

McNally Robinson is the largest independent Canadian bookstore chain.

But I admit I rarely buy brand new books anymore, they have gotten SO expensive and I read about one book a week. That would cost me around $60 a month if I buy brand new paperbacks.

So I usually trade with GFs and my mom and aunt, go to the library, and buy used at a great used book store in town that charges half the cover price.

Would that establishment sell such titles as these below (some of my favourites, ever)?:

"The Goths in Spain";
"The Formation of a Persecuting Society: Authority and Deviance in Western Europe 950-1250";
"The Portuguese Empire, 1415-1808: A World on the Move";
"Muslim Spain and Portugal: A Political History of al-Andalus";
"Tintin - The Porn Version" (actually, there's a new one of these available in Europe, "Tintin In Thailand". European mules wanted).

Can't remember it that well, something about 'you can really fly if you really work hard at it', weren't it?
