I am at the point of the trip where days run together and does it really matter? I would say Day three or four now.
Today is going to be a beach and try a new place to eat day. The weather as usual 90 degrees and sunny. Just like yesterday and tomorrow! Gosh I hate this. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Have a great time at the beach and upon further research decide that Mr. Crispy would like to do Alux tonight. Sounds like a great plan. The problem, I have heard is, they have great atmosphere but the food blows. We decide drinks and exploring then back to our own El Bistro for dining. We get all cleaned up, hop a cab, for only the second time since weve been in town, and off to Alux! We roll up only to read a sign that they aren't open for another hour and 15 min. :-( Oh well make lemonade with these lemons. Driver, La Pesca please! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() At La Pesca the service is Fantastico!! We start out with Chicken Fingers and cokes (In a glass bottle, double bonus) The shrimp soup and deep fried shrimp. Only need like a shrimp cocktail and shrimp cake for dessert with a little shrimp juice and it will be just like Forrest Gump! Yep me and Yucaburnt are " Just like Peas and Carrots" ps-The bartender was one of the cutest nicest young ladies you will ever meet. Wish I would have gotten her name! After dinner, because it is right across the street, mega run! I know, I have issues! Mega muffins for morning! Peter Piper Picked yeh whatever. Ha! I am really enjoying this trip report
, but I have dial-up and picture loading is really slow, but worth the wait.I am going to Playa april 19-28 (Royal PDC) and I see two places so far that I HAVE to go: Java Joes , and Mega................Now I just have to get out my Mapchick map of Playa (now in 3 glorious parts) and put an "x" to mark the spots. Mega reminds me (sort of) of Wegmans in Fairport NY (the best market I've ever been in) - my brother is in Fairport - I live in Queens NY |

Tulum and Akumal with the Tortugas! Wildlife from Ohio
Day something-Sunrise run, El Bistro Breaky, you know the drill. Today a new experience. Collectivo to "Tulum and Beyond" Now this was a trip. We brought all of our own snorkel gear with us from the States. Which is either a good or bad thing. I haven't yet decided. I am open water scuba certified so I am a little picky about my equipment. Problem is you have to drag it all, all the way to Mexico and then drag it where ever you are getting wet at. Still think it is a good thing to have your own! Plus, being a cheapo you don't have to rent. At 2nd calle and 20th "choas" as all the locals are trying to get on a collectivo and get north or south to their livlyhoods.Grabbed one going south and away we go!
Welcome to my Tulum! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It was a fairly long haul to Tulum on the collectivo but soooo worth it. The beach views were breath taking and the history super interesting. We opted to buy a guide book ( a momento for later ) and do it self guided. Good choice! Yucaburnt and I don't roll well in crowds. Seemed like all the groups were French as well :-( If ya get my drift. No offense, that is unless they offend first. Which they invariably do. Nuff said. It was another great day and the beach here was voted #3 in all of Mexico by the Travel Channel for good reason! I would like to see #1 & #2! ![]() ![]() ![]() On the way back to 307 stopped to see the crazy pole swinger dudes. We were the only ones standing there. The leader of the pack came up to me and asked for a donation. Now don't get me wrong, I donate to every friggen thing, so I dug out 20 pesos and tossed it in his hat. He frowned at me and said the swingers won't swing unless I give him 100 pesos. So he sticks his hat in my face again. I usually am slow to anger but this pissed me off. I don't give a doogie where your boys swing to! I took my 20 pesos back out of his hat and CYA! Last edited by Yucatanned : 04-12-2008 at 08:00 AM. |

I delayed reading your report until I could sit with my Saturday morning coffee and savor it. Great job Yucatanned!
![]() You and your son seem to be great travelling buddies. Looks like you had a fantastic time. Those Tulum shots are absolutely beautiful. Keep it coming now! |

Fantastic report, YN! We love the grocery stores, too
Well, not shopping in them- but the food they provide us On vacation, we only eat out a max. of 2 meals/day- and frequently only one. It is just easier to eat healthy if you prepare your own food....edit- I just noticed that you're yucatan ned- not ed! Sorry ![]() Last edited by Buggirl : 04-12-2008 at 05:24 PM. |

Ok Folks, where did I leave ya hangin? Ah yes, Tulum and Beyond! After Pissin off the swingers it's off to Akumal to search out the elusive "Tortuga".
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We jumped the collectivo to the little town that its just off 307. "alto por favor tortugas?" Si Si Ok were here although I don't know exactly where here is other than I know the general direction of the water. There was a ton of road constuction goin on up the hill and looked like some cool little mom-pop eating and drinking joints. I tell Mr. Crispy, who is now browning and peeling like an Iguana, lets take a side trip. So up the hill we stop in the first little place. Great Clean sparce little place. A little boy of maybe 5 summers trots up to me and asks " Cervasa Meester"? OMG how cute. How could I turn down that face? Of course I'll have one... or two. After checkin out that local scene, I saw a few taxis while trudging up the hill. When in doubt take a taxi. I once again use my best loud slow english, like thats going to help, which-way- to- yal- Ku? Tortugas-Gracias. He chuckles tosses our gear in the trunk, and in perfect english says "hop in" Well all of a minute and a half later there we are. One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen! How much Senor? 20 pesos he says. Such a cheerful happy guy I give him a 50 and tell him to keep it. The Pole Swingers would have gotten the 100 if they would have been cheerful. I recognize Lol Ha from pics and and we can't get our gear on fast enough. What a great snorkeling venue. We saw a Tortuga right off the bat and a barracuda and a passle of other cool and colorful fish. After a 45 minute stint in the water I figure it's been at least 4 hours since we have eaten. Fearing starvation and remembering photos of the burgers at Lol Ha, we back our way out of the sea and up to a table. ![]() WE certainly were not dissapointed in our choices of chicken fingers w/fries and Burger w/onion rings Cokes and all for well under $20.00 Now, we all remember our Mammas telling us not to swim for 30 minutes after eating. Good words to live by. After that lunch my motivation for strenous activity was curbed considerably. One more short venture into Jaque's World and time to head back to La Paradise.
