Wow it has been a full day! Once again, as the Carpenters would sing it " weve only just begun" Tonight is the night we go to Alux! This place is Beyond Cool! Certainly my Boy Gunner's favorite stop on the Playa Tour.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hope to not bore anyone to death with too many photos but Alux was certainly a highlight! I just can't understand this place never seems busy. If I could get ahold of this place and market it! Some of the taxi drivers don't even seem to know where it is. This place could rock! The dance floor was really cool and I could just imagine putting on a party here that would look like something out of the BLADE Vampire flicks! Last edited by Yucatanned; 04-13-2008 at 07:09 AM. |

DAY 5 or 6 Wildlife from Ohio
Another Sunrise and another great AM run with Boy. This Day was a little different. We were stretching when a VERY pretty Blonde lady asked us where the best place for her to run was. I told her the whole city is relativly safe but to cut down on the "Cat Calls" you may want to stay down close to the tourist areas for your run. She did and we passed her a time or two on our run. She looked way too fast for us though. Saw an interesting sight on our run today, other than the pretty girl from Ohio. A family of 4 all on one scooter. Puts a whole new twist on FAMILY TRANSPORTATION. OMG! As if scooters aren't dangerous enough! Breakfast @ El Bistro and pool it for a while. This is a day for relaxation after yesterday's fun! Tan to pool to tan to pool all day. Before you know it, it is happy hour!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() These two wonderful young ladies turned out to be a highlight of our trip. They were so full of fun! It was a sad day when they had to fly back to Ohio :-( Much more to come. El Fogon, HC Montery (the new one) As the bucket turns, parasailing, ect Last edited by Yucatanned; 04-17-2008 at 07:24 AM. |

As The Bucket Turns
For nearly everyone on this site the Beer Bucket is a very special place. As most know, there seems to be major controversy over a possible sale of the Bar. I don't claim to be an expert or a Mexican Lawyer but safe to say that S**T is going to hit the fan before this whole deal is done! I became privy to the new t-shirt design that will soon be hitting the open market. The powers that be wanted to make sure I got it on the internet. Better make sure I get one!
![]() This day at the Bucket I met a really great Guy named Tom ***. Names changed to protect the inocent. That is if there were any inocents. Haven't found any here yet! Tom is a Vet and an Ex-Pat who has been here for alot of years. He was so cool to talk to. All the stories of when Playa was young! He became like a brother for the remainder of my stay. AMAZING some of the cool stuff he turned me on to in the Playa area! Last edited by Yucatanned; 04-13-2008 at 10:56 AM. |

Hard to believe our time here is starting to run out. Still so much to do! Today we Jet ski again. It was great again. Edwaurdo hooked us up Phat on the equipment again. We had a repeat performance of wave jumping! These waves were like 6ft high! Great fun!
Tonight a special treat! El Fogon. Thanks to Heather and Susie Q and Babs for their recommendations on menu choices! Man this is PRIMO Mexican fare. ![]() I had Tacos al Pastor ![]() Queso Fundido Con Chorizo ![]() Mr. Crispy had Sincronizadas ![]() ![]() I also ordered Frijoles Charros. Thank God they forgot this cuz my eyes were way too big! Once again a triple bonus! Coke in Glass Bottles and right across from my MEGA Store for dessert! Believe it or not, total bill on this Mexican food orgy 100 pesos! Left the guy 50 pesos for dealing with my poor spanish! Last edited by Yucatanned; 04-13-2008 at 11:32 AM. |

Well here we go! It's a bummer when you start counting how many days you have left vs. how many days you've been here. That's where we are at now. Today is going to be Parasailing day. To be honest I HATE parasailing! Damn the things you do for your Kids! I did have a water camera that I took photos of Jet Skiing, snorkeling, parasailing, est on but haven't had time to get them on here. I will add those at a later date. Did get some cool Tortuga pics! Once again my boy Edwaurdo hooked us up. Yucaburnt knows I hate to Parasail so when we get way up there he starts to rock the harness and go no handed, ect. He likes to see Dad green around the Gills! I will say one thing, there is no more beautiful way to see all the colors of the Caribbean than from a parasail. Another thing that amazes you when you are up 400 ft is to look at the growth of Playa. Anyway, I got that activity out of the way and was most grateful to be back on the ground. Tonight is a meal I have been looking forward to for a while. The "new" HC Monterrey!
![]() On our way out the door we say " Hola" to our Girl Fernanda at the La Tortuga Front Desk. What a Sweetheart she is! We grad a cab cuz we are bushed from another wonderful 90 degree day in the sun. Problem is, it quickly became obvious the cabbie was taking us to the old one on 1 sur! No senor wrong one! Finally I told him just to take us to Mega. It being right across the street. Should have just walked! Oh well 5 bucks later here we are. ![]() ![]() ![]() And What did we have to eat? You Guess ? ![]() ![]() Of course! The Arracharra! Don't mess with a good thing!! One thing I will say for the New location. Much more open and breezy. Cooler and not so smokey! You can't go wrong with either but I prefer the new one. Last edited by Yucatanned; 04-13-2008 at 06:21 PM. |

Leaving Paradise :-(
Well the Day of the Dead or the wishing for more time is upon us :-( Guess if there is some good news, I booked a 6:00pm flight
I'm up for my normal sunrise run. Difference being I had to make a stop at the Bus Station to pick up 2 to Cun on the ADO. Holy crap 5:30 am and the station is jammed! Must be Sundays all the locals take buses to see family. Never seen so many people in Playa at 5:30 am!Got the tics with no trouble and run back to Java Joes for my last coffee with the "Clan". This being the day Mexico goes on daylight saving time kind of screwed things up. Most of my Peeps were there though. Tough to say goodbye. All I said was "Thanks for everything and see ya in June" Drink up, don't look back, CYA. On my way back to La T Cheevo caught up to me in his Limo Golf Cart. We say our goodbyes and I promise to look him up as soon as I get there in June. What a great guy!Back at La Tortuga, I search out a few of my favs and lay a couple 50 peso tips around. Tell them not to spend it on wild women and song. But if they do, I want to hear about it! Ha Ha! A bit of time by the pool. Collect my " Mapchick Map" from about the 10th person I've lent it to and get the suitcases. Misty eyes around as I make my way down the stairs and wave to all my Peeps. Don't look back! It doesn't do any good. See ya La Tortuga! Grab a cab to save carrying 4 much heavier bags to the Bus Station. Amazingly the Cabbie doesn't know where the Bus Station is. Ha Ha. He said" I make you the world's best Deal! I take you to aeropourto for $40.00. No Gracias I already have tickets! Although that was a decent price. Not as decent as $16.00 American but not bad! His memory block disappears and we get to the Bus Station. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Terminal 3, No sweat. Zing through checkin and security. Cool now we only have 2.5 hours to wait. Being punctual is a curse! My boy, being a big Forrest Gump fan, sees a place in the Airport to grab a bite. My first reaction is " tourist rip-off " which it kind of was but it also was pretty cool. No sense in being cheap now! The Kids that work in this place were high energy and it was a good way to blow a couple hours. You just don't want too many $8.00 cervasas! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And as the Curtain closes on another Most Excellent Yucatan Adventure I can only think of the immortal words of Porky Pig " The Tha The Tha The That's all Folks" Last edited by Yucatanned; 04-13-2008 at 07:22 PM. |

Absolutely love the arrachera beef....
we decided to go there the last night in Playa. It was wonderful, but I couldn't possibly eat 300 grams of arrachera. That's what it said on the menu. The great waiter brought me a "to go". Sooo, the next day after checking into the airport we are sitting at the Meeting Place eating the left over arrachera and a couple of Sol. Now what more could ask for? Really!
For some reason I packed a bunch of ziplock baggies and so in went the arrachera beef, some ice and 4 cold Sol. We loved every minute of our wait to depart from the Cancun airport. Went through immigration and bought a couple of Sol and just truly enjoyed our wait for NorthWest flight. Just chuckling watching all the "other people" at the Shrimp Heaven Place ( can't remember the name) and the small little eateries. For the first time ever, they didn't change our departure gate and it was like "bonus time". |
