I want to go there someday...I really do
![]() I have seen many tours that go to the Galapagos and then end up here "on the way home," or as an added excursion. ![]() It is a trip I would love to go on, someday. Thor, thanks so much for the pics

I've been wanting to go to the Galapagos for a few years. Unfortunately, I haven;t met anyone who shares my same passion to go there. One day, I will go.
BTW I do have a friend who is going to Peru on her on this summer. She's been to India, Japan, and serveral other countries travelling on her own. She's a school teacher and every year she spends her summers in a different country. She's an amazing woman. |

I missed this thread the first time around, but what a great one!
![]() ![]() Vanessa, thanks for starting it. Thor, what amazing pictures. And Anna, I've loved reading about your experiences. Macchu Picchu is one of my dream destinations. (As are the Galapagos, Bonny and Shirlee. )I am following along vicariously and getting the itch to stop dreaming and start planning my own trip.

I just want to show you that Peru is much more than Machu Picchu. Here are some pictures from Amantani. I went to Puno and the Titicaca Lake before going to Cusco. And from Puno I went to the lovely island called Amantani. It was in Puno I met the three boys from Chile. They kind of saved me when I got high sickness.
![]() This is the house where I stayed for 5 days on the island called Amantani. One of the boys from Chile in front. ![]() The daughter from the family where we where staying showing us how to make knitting wool. ![]() And here is the son of the family. A great boy! ![]() Me at the house. ![]() I didn't belive my eyes when I saw this. ![]() This one is made after the European model. This is not how the Indians made it before Columbus. ![]() One of the rush boats they used. The called the rush Balsa. ![]() It was fun talking to the children. In a way it is easier to comunicate with children when you are from a different culture. They are more open to foreigners. ![]() It was a great fiesta when we stayed there. I just had to take a picture when I saw this girl. ![]() Another picture from the fiesta. This is from Plaza de Armas on Amantani. Both women and men where heavy drinkers. The drank home made and it tasted yeast. The day after must have been hard. Two more pictures from Cusco: ![]() This boy was playing with his grandfather who was blind. They wore their best ponchos. ![]() One of the boys selling sigarettes. This picture is from Plaza de Armas in Cusco. |
