Liposuction?

At risk of seeming like I’m having a mid-life crisis after my hair post of yesterday , I wanna know what you think of having liposuction. In all honesty, it’s not even about appearance for me. I just have one area of my body where I store fat - well, I have more than one, but only the one really bothers me a lot... - that has made me physically uncomfortable all my friggin’ life – even during thin times. It stays there, even at my fittest, most muscular and lean shape – just a genetic quirk. ARGH! It drives me crazy on a regular basis and I’m thinking I might as well just bite the bullet and get rid of it! IF there's a valid, safe, healthful way to do so.

So anyway, have you had liposuction or know anyone who has? How’d it turn out? Was it worth the pain and inconvenience?

I have an area that bugs me too...well maybe more than one area, and even though I workout regularly it wouldn't slim down. Talking about my tummy/hips. I don't look fat, but I feel it around the waist line. A result of having kids. Sometimes I think about it, but then I say to hell with surgery/lypo. If my husband never complained, what the hell am I worrying about?

I'm in the camp where if someone feels they need lypo or whatever tucks they imagine would make them feel better/younger, go for it. For me, I don't think I would do it. Rather spend my money travelling.

Julie has also thrown the idea around, after 2 kids "things" aren't in the same place they used to be is the reason. I see her just as beautiful as the day we married, and have told her many times it isn't needed. It has nothing to do with me though, it's what she sees and feels in herself. If she decided to do it I'd be 100% behind her, if you too Suzie think it will improve how you feel about yourself and ultimately improving your quality of life, go for it. Like lasik surgery, don't go for discounts!

I had a consult last year for a tummy tuck & lipo. Although I weigh 135ish pounds I have a gut/bulge I cannot get rid of & saggy ass syndrome. I also inherited the family thighs. At this point I decided against it (mostly the tummy tuck) as the surgery & scars were something I am not ready for. I will probably get the lipo in the next few years. As someone who has had plastic surgery & had a very positive life changing experience I would encourage you (or anyone else considering it) to do lots of research & meet with a few doctors. It is your choice! I am going for a consult soon for a nose job.

I am going to add: I HATE hearing women say "My husband wants me to do this...." Blech! My hubby loved me before just as much as after. He was against me having it done but respected my decision.

Really the cost is not too much. $6800 for boobs I will have for quite a while.....worth every penny! People drive new cars off the lot & they depreciate that much before you get home!

I swear, I would leave any man in a heartbeat for saying anything like that to me! It's one thing if he would support my decision, but for him to decide... kick 'im to the curb!

Also, I'm guessing it's probably cheaper down here. I have a neighbor who has had a lot of work done in Cancun and gave me a recommendation. I met the doctor to have a small mole removed and asked her a bit about face lifts. She won my respect by saying, "No way do you need one yet!" Shows some integrity, I think, rather than chomping at the bit to bring in some $$$.

EDIT: Just remembered one time on a dating website... a guy responded to my profile and included the fact that I would "look great with some implants!" OMG!!! Yeah, and you'd look a damn sight better with some sense, buddy! (though if I ever laid eyes on him, the missing teeth might mar his appearance. )

Liposuction, eh? That's the procedure where they suck all the fat out, isn't it? I might consider trying it, but I'm a little concerned I might end up looking like this....

I considered looking into it in Mexico too.....let me know how it goes if you do have a consult! The recovery is not too bad from what I hear. Bruising & you have to be bound for a bit but here you wear those tight slimming shorts (like you would wear under a dress).

I agree. I think a good spouse should offer to try to rub the spot till the unwanted stuff is gone - I'd call it lipo-friction

Personally, I think these kind of surgeries encourage an attitude of obsession with perfection and that doesn't sit well with me. No judgements if it makes others feel better about themselves, but there's a reason so many young girls have warped body images. And I do it too, constantly bemoaning my "problem areas," as if that were some important subject to overcome like ignorance or poverty.

A truly great positive to come out of the popularity of plastic surgery is that the funds generated from vanity work often allow doctors to perform more pro bono work on those who need it for non-cosmetic reasons. If boob jobs and lipo have raised the profile of this field, that can only be good for those who suffer from disfiguration or third degree burns and desperately need these procedures.

My sil had lipo about 10 years ago... her opinion is that it wasn't worth it... expensive, painful and the results didn't last... pounds just crept right back on...she's done more after getting into a running and exercise program and eating better than she did with the lipo...

I think the more things change the more they stay the same. My Grandma remembers hating her boobs & thighs in school as does my Mom. The days before plastic surgery were even around. I believe their has always been an obsession with "beauty".....look back to the Roman years for example....however our perception of what "Beauty" is is what has changed. I don't think plastic surgery is the root of it.
My small boobs didn't sit well with me.

It's not about feeling better about myself, in my case (and certainly not about perfection or warped body image - yikes!). It's because I want to be able to wear skirts and dresses in these warm temps without hurting. And about not having shorts crawl up into... well, you know where they go. Having this done would probably not be something that any other human being would ever notice... it would just be about being physically comfortable. To tell you the truth, it wasn't near the issue in Ohio as I usually wore tights or hose with a skirt and it wasn't so flippin' hot all the time. If I'm going to live here (and I plan to!), I want to be as comfortable as possible.

Oh, and the issue is that I store fat on my inner, upper thighs.

I wish diet and exercise would work with this, but I've been 30-40 pounds less than this and still had the issue. (Just went back and checked pics from my leanest, strongest and, yep, it's still there!) I'm starting to think that having more muscle in my thighs is making it even worse!

Don't they say that the fat will never go back to LIPOSUCTIONED areas? Other areas, and weight, yes... but not in those ones, is what I've always understood it to be.
