Zihuatanejo MX, Loreto MX, or Maui US?
Our return flight out of Mexico was significantly delayed so Alaska Airlines, to make up for our pain and suffering, has very generously (they have excellent customer service) awarded us two vouchers worth $400.00 each to be used for tickets to any destination that Alaska flies to.
So with our unexpected windfall my husband and I are faced with the difficult task of deciding which tropical paradise we want to travel.I'm going with a gf to Loreto MX in the fall so I think I've narrowed the choice down to Zihuatanejo or Maui. Neither my husband or I have been to either location. If you were faced with our "problem" which destination would you choose and why? |

Well, that's easy one for me, we'd definitely pick Zihua simply because we love it there....although we have always wanted to go to Maui and we've been to Ixtapa/Zihua twice, so we actually might pick Hawaii!
But not likely, just because it's more money and a longer flight. Zihua rocks!!! If you need advice on where to stay- PM me! |

ok, i'll preface this by saying i've had 3 glasses of champagne tonight... but i speed read (sped read?) thru your post and thought i originally saw "wife and i".. and then i got to this quote... and thought "well that's awfully bold that he's posting on a public forum that he's taking his girlfriend in the fall"...
![]() ![]() ![]() d'oh! i'm sorry, i have no actual advice to give you. i'd love to go to any of those destinations! i would assume maui would be much more expensive to stay and eat at.. that would be my hesitation with that option! |

Just my 2 cents, but I'd head to Maui
Been to Zihua and Maui and I'd pick Maui no question. I love Mexico more than anything, been to Playa 6 times and would live there if I could, but Zihua just didn't do it for me (just my 2 cents, I know lots of people love it there). Maui was so beautiful and we had the time of our life there. |

We went to Maui in March one year and it rained. A lot. Every freaking minute of every single day. Flash flooding rains. Drove by some beaches, but never got to step foot on one. No kidding. No way could you say "eh, what's a little rain, we're in paradise?" Needless to say it wasn't my favorite vacation. The flight over was a killer too. And it's SO expensive to stay and eat.
That said, I can say that I have been there, and I would even want to go back so that I can really have the experience there I should have had. Given the affordability of MX, I think I might pick Maui (good idea on Kauai Scott, but no nightlife or activity IMHO). You have $800 in your pocket, when will that happen again? You could have a fantastic trip to Maui, then say been there, done that, and go to Zihua next time. Oh, yeah, forgot to add that I did think the food in Maui sucked. But it is a place unlike any other that I have ever seen and worth experiencing in your lifetime. |
