Pesos or US Dollars - need help ASAP

Heading to Playa del Crmen in about a week an a half .. I know this has been dicussed before ad nauseum..

I will be at an AI resort, but will certainly ventur into town and might even do a trip to Tulum .... My biggest question is .. is can I use US $ for cab fair, tips, etc .. or would it be preferable to get some pesos here in the US befor I embark on my trip. If I had to exhange there in Mexico, where would be the best place?

Pesos are best. USD are not accepted everywhere....you will not get as good of a conversion rate....and you will usually receive change in pesos. Best exchange rate will be from an ATM, then a Bank, then a Money Exchange.

Thanks!! Now .. are ATM's convenient? I will be staying at the Riu Palace. Does anyone know the closest aside from those in town.
I assume most bank cards will work to withdraw money?

We took USD and only found a problem at Tulum. We got change in pesos so that's what we used the very odd time we needed it. Otherwise, I found USD to be the best.
