GrosCap - did you (or your kids) eat at the Sports Bar? I heard many different things about what food is served there - some say just hot dogs, others have said chicken fingers, nachos, etc.
Just curious... for that picky son of mine, of course! |

We also stayed at the Royal in PDC when it first opened in 2005, and that was an incredible experience even though some things were not yet opened or completed yet. The Grand Princess does remind me of the elegance of the Royal and was one of the reasons we chose this resort. I have been vacillating between the Grand Princess and possibly changing to the Barcelo Tropical, however, we would only save around $100 for the package that only includes the standard room which is not anything close to the deluxe jr. suite at the Princess. To upgrade to a jr. suite at the Barcelo Tropical would be an additional $1220. I'm not sure why they charge so much for the upgrade, but then I would be paying quite a bit more to switch the package. I've been weighing the pros and cons of switching, and will most likely stick with the Princess. Again, thanks for all your help. |

Hi all,
Just got back on friday, still planning to post pics when i get a chance. so let me start by saying, we stayed on the riveira side(room 6220) junior deluxe the buffet was fantastic!! im surprised i have heard that it wasn't very good, we even stopped going to the al acartes! as the buffet was so good, room service was free of charge for us, and service was fantastic, but if i can get the same price we paid, in 6 months when we go back............ then i believe the place was crap and and all who have booked for this time should go elsewhere....lol. you will have a great time there, the staff are great, and the water warm, food was fantastic and i cant say enough about the place. Please if you have booked there dont worry about a thing, We were going to go to another resort in 6 months with the kids, but after going there we are already starting to pin down a return date.I'll post pics when i get a chance. ![]() ![]() |

The Princess is located about ten minutes north of Playa Del Carmen. It is further South than Secrets and just south of the Fairmont Mayacoba. It is also North of the Grand Coco Bay.
Food at the sports bar varies by the time of day. I think hot dogs are always available, and chips and cheese sauce (processed - yuk) most of the time. There is a kitchen behind the bar, so I think chicken fingers and fries would be made there. On Friday morning, I had a fresh-made triple decker toasted club sandwich at 6:30 am while we waited for our airport transfer. It was delish! |

Still Confused about room service
We are booked in a Deluxe pool Suite (swimup), do we get free room service? What ala carte restaurants are included? Is there a charge for them? We are going May 8-18 to the GSP. Checked all posts and really didn't answer these questions for sure. Also is it true they only have Modelo beer? Do they have good hard liquor?
Thanks in advance for any help |

Beer- only Modelo in cans in the room fridges and Corona on tap at the bars. I never had a beer on resort all week. In town, a couple of Sol's from the local stores did the trick!
There was a good selection of beer on the Tulum and Beyond tour as well. There was always a good selection of hard liquor, but you had to request it specifically each time you order a drink. Otherwise you get low quality stuff - the bar tequila was not good. There were several quality tequilas, and selection differed from bar to bar. Do you know about room service, is it free to deluxe swimup rooms now? The other question is there a charge for the ala carte restaurants? How do the in room safes work? Slide your room key or put in a code? Last edited by Cruisenut1 : 05-01-2008 at 03:56 PM. Reason: Added another question |

top shelf liquor available...but do ask for it...sports bar has dogs, nachos, burgers, club sandwiches, chicken fingers, fries, etc...room service is free in the junior deluxe suites....five of the seven a la cartes are no charge ( the other two are no charge for platinum guests and $25 per for the rest )...safe is coded, each time you close the door on the safe you enter a code ( same one each time or something different, you decide )...hope that helps....sonofdob.
