I've lived in the south all of my life (36 years) and I remember seeing them on street corners handing out flyers when I was a little kid, and it scared me to death. I haven't seen hide or hair of them in at least 15 years or more other than some kind of march they were putting on in the midwest somewhere. I'm not saying they don't exist anymore, but I don't think they pull much weight at all. Thank goodness.

Many countries besides mine have instituted hate speech laws in the past decade or so- Denmark, Sweden, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Iceland, France, etc.

The question for me is where do one person's right to freedom of speech end and the other person's right to not be publicly humiliated, lied about and slandered start. Allowing people like the KKK to hold public rallies seems to me like the country is condoning that kind of attitude or treatment of minorities.

I don't believe in censorship in literature or the arts, which is what I think George Orwell was thinking of when he wrote that, hrlydavison, not people crying for blood in the town square and scaring small children. Or carrying placards with pictures of aborted fetuses for little children to see, and calling for the assasination of doctors, etc.

I thought she meant we were all on the side of anti racism, and anti KKK...

I would prefer that the haters not be allowed to march and congregate, but as the law is, they have the right to peaceably do just that... I personally wish there was not a lot of publicity to go with these demonstrations... it would definitely lessen their impact...

I met a young man once who said he was in the Klan - but he was a young marine trying his best to get out of advanced infantry training with a psych discharge, so I kind of discounted it. A few days of evaluation and he was sent back to his company.
