Can't even get quotes yet from Sandos. Any help would be great. Know of where I can see a resoert map? Thanks...
The new section rooms are a ways back from the beach. IMHO, more time spent out of room than in it meant I wanted to be near the pools and beach. You may like the relative quiet back there though...

We still have 52 days to go before we arrive at the Sandos Riviera (8000-9000) and it's getting really hard to concentrate on work, or anything else for that matter. We have decided to go to Tulum, cenote swim, zip lines, etc.. through a company called "edventures". I haven't heard or read anything about it on this forum, but have seen really great reviews on TripAdvisor.com. Regarding booking in the new section, that shouldn't be real hard as they are (or were) having a sale/promotion when we booked our vacation. We even picked out a slightly higher priced airfare because we wanted the United Airlines miles. Next year, all six of us will have enough miles for free flights! Woohoo. We booked our vacation through "CheapCarribean.com" and got a great price on the package. We live in Northern California (Livermore) and we were able to book the vacation to Playa cheaper than either to Hawaii or to Cabo. Go figure.

Best Rooms

We were just at the Sandos and what room you request really depends on what your preferences are when on vacation. We were in one of the older buildings but literally a 10 second walk to the beach. We loved the convenience of getting up in the morning, throwing our towels on our chairs and then going for a quick breakfast. Also, whenever we had to use the washroom we just ran back to our room - very handy. The rooms are older but still quite nice and the bathrooms have been renovated. We took a walk up to the new 8000 and 9000 buildings one evening and they are a good 5 minute walk away. It may not sound like a lot but think of how far you can walk in 5 minutes and then imagine doing it in 90 degree temperatures. We were able to peek into some of the rooms and they do look beautiful. Flat screen TV's, modern furnishings and the rooms themselves are larger than the older ones. It's a lot quieter in the new area and you have a pool with a swim up bar. So...it really does depend on what you prefer. If you're beach people I'd say ask for the older buildings. If you like the idea of a quieter time and want newer facilities then ask for the 8000 or 9000 buildings and be prepared for a longer walk to the beach. Hope this helped and that you have a great vacation

Just a dovetail comment: The rooms in the front "older" part were just fine, as Sunlover7 sys. Consider this: You are really paying for time away on your vacation. Nice rooms can be had anywhere - even back home. My theory is, you can't see or get to this kind of ocean view at a nice room back on the farm, so why pay this kind of money to get your walk-ercise?

#$%@ You guys aren't making this easy...

We are in the "trip planning" stages for Mar/April of 09. We were originally set on going back to the Sandos Playacar and then, my S.O. saw the Grand Sunset Princess! I'm 'sposed to be evaluating for a decision later tonite (argh).

We will be travelling with a "merry band" as usually seems to happen. For the 2 weeks we are looking at, the Sandos is $500.00 more expensive. Not really significant on a 10k bill

Either way I'll be butt down in the Mayan sand next spring

We were in 1218 - U can see pics on our TR - it was a standard room with partial ocean view and literally 28 seconds away from Sand-os!

Hope you enjoy your trip!
I read a lot of people calling or emailing to confirm their reservation before they even leave the states. We are there in 11 days, but booked everything through a travel agent. Is it necessary to call/email to confirm??

Hey Lucky You!!!! I have to wait 260 days!!!!! I was told by 130taKen120 also to email and request just to make sure you get what you requested..... Also to bring a copy of your emails and register on the Sandos site..... So it couldn't hurt to make sure you get what you want!!! What room do you have booked? What section?
Have a great time! Can't wait to hear how your trip went when you get back!

Chile:

I would and I would bring any reply email that Sandos sends you with. I forwarded the email that the TA sent me to the Sandos and asked whether they received it. What can it hurt? Have fun!!!

Okay then, I will email them. I have no idea what room we have -- our package just says run of the house. Thanks for the advice! We will be happy with any room, but since we don't plan on spending much time in our room, we'd rather be closer to the ocean. WE CAN'T WAIT!!!! It is getting very hard to concentrate at work now!!!
