My friend who was there with me had a problem with his phone and A.C. in his room and they fixed it right of way. They really do treat you EXCELLENT there.
We had a Royal Club room and also did the Sandos4You VIP that you can sign up for on thier site and it was worth it.
10% off at the Spa and gift shop and you also don't have to worry about not getting a reservation at one of the Ala Kart rest. because I believe they save a certain number of slots for the "VIP's"
Make sure when checking in that you get the correct color bracelet for your reservation, i.e. Royal Club and or VIP if you have both then you should have a gold bracelet...we learned this 2 days later after sporting around the blue ones.

Thats good news about the breeze getting through the buffet. We traveled with her and stayed at another hotel year before last and there was no breeze in the buffet and it was unbearably hot. I think that was her concern. We have signed up for the sandosvip on they website. Did you get anything special in your room for signing up? Not that we hate kids we have 3 but are empty nesters and were wondering if we should just do an all adult but according to you it doesnt sound bad and besides were going in late Aug so alot of kids will be going back to school.

That another thing I forgot to mention that my friend said in her email. She said the time share sharks were in full force and had asked them 3 times in 2 days to go to a presentation. When it was the Gala year before last they were terrible and were constantly bothering us. Thats terrible because that hotel has the best beach.

I have experienced this in other resorts, and as long as you don't have to attend a sales pitch to pay for your stay, it's easy to smile and keep saying no thank you to their offers to attend a presentation.

We were never bothered by them once bt also did not partake in any of the "Royal Club" room amenities by the front desk.

We were asked once and we just told them no thank you. I guess they will give you and the wife a 30 minute massage and a bottle of tequilla for your your time. Or you can even get some different shwag if you dont like the massage/tequilla combo.
I heard it is 30k to join as a member and a contract for 25 years of maint. fees. OUCH!!!!
Just be polite and say no thanks and keep on walking.

Maybe I will just make a sign and take it with that has a big NO on it. Honestly when we just have said NO timeshare they know we know and leave its just we have to tell about 20 different people. We went to a timeshare presentation once in Playa and we were so shocked at the prices, even when they offered it to us for about a fourth of the price it started off at. It was at the Viva Mayan about 12 years ago when it was new. We did get a free rental car out of the deal and drove to Cancun.

Are you saying that you can get a gold bracelet if you have just the Sandos4U card? That would be fabulous!

Actually if you just have the Sandos4U then I believe you get silver but we also upgraded our room the a Royal Club Jr Suite. I think that is why we were eligible for the gold.

Did you upgrade there or before you went when you made the reservations? On funjet it was almost 400 more per person and we didnt think it would be worth it.

The answer is . . . Yes. You get checked in, they bring you champagne, and send you to a very nice looking young woman or man. They give you maps, and tell you all about the resort until you start falling asleep from having been up since 3 AM traveling! By the time you figure out they are trying to sell you Time Share, it's like "DUH" -- we just thought they were being very courteous and trying to show us how to get around the place. When I finally figured it out, I just came right out and told J (can't remember her name) we weren't interested, and we just wanted to go eat. She pressured a little, but I pointed to my kids (who were by then curled up in the big leather chairs, sleeping!) and I said "Thank you, but no. We've had a long day and need to eat and go to our rooms." (thanks, kids! I didn't even ask them to play possum!)
She said okay, and let us go on our way, but she did ask us to fill out an invitation with her ONLY. They do not get paid, they only make points for every appointment. We declined to make an appointment. When we hit the other lobby (the older one), another lady tried to get us to make an appt with her. We lied and said we had an appt with J from the new lobby, and she said "No, it's okay -- you can come with me right now . . .". Apparently the competition is stiff!
Just be firm, and lie if you have to!

I cant believe they houned you the minute you arrived at the resort and with kids in tow. My friend just got back on Saturday and said they were sneakier than ever.

Those are the exact same words I used -- SNEAKY!!
Going through the airport was pretty funny, too. I had learned from this forum that you just grab your bags and push through, get outside and take a right. We had prepaid transport with Olympus. I honestly tried pushing through, but my husband is way too nice for his own good. He can't ignore people trying to talk to us, so he got reeled in by one of those guys selling stuff, so I said "No, we are going to Olympus". He said, "Yes, you are supposed to come here first, and I am supposed to show you where to go for your Olympus pickup. I work for the airport." Then I felt guilty for trying to blow him off. I fell for it. Once I figured it out, I got us all out of there, and my husband was actually trying to sign up for one of their timeshare invitations. We have NO intention of doing that, but he felt bad because the guy spent some time with us. The girls and I gave him a hard time about it -- although I was fooled at first too! Next time I will be an old pro!
