Guess what! I felt it here too!!
Shook my bed a bit. I'm a light sleeper. At first I was confused and wondering why the cat was jumping all over the bed, but when I sat up and looked at him he was looking at me probably wondering the same thing. This is the 3rd one I've felt in the Midwest. |

The Missouri area has been hit by few but large earthquakes over the centuries. Mostly in the South East part of the state.
USGS History of earthquakes in Missouri USGS History of earthquakes in Illinois Make us Californians proud. Make your home earthquake ready. Just read a little about your earthquake. 5.2 That's big for you guys. That would be medium for us in California, but would probably cause very little damage for us as the buildings are built to a much higher standard than a 5.2. Rocking skyscrapers are okay (the welds should hold). As long as they don't reach building harmonics. Watch out being on the top floors you don't want get hit by flying furniture or get thrown out the windows (actually you and the furniture would be not moving much but the building would be).

It awoke me this morning here in Fort Wayne, IN (about 230 miles from epicenter). The house shook, windows rattled, and the french doors in my bedroom were swinging and hitting the walls. It seemed like it lasted forever! My dog was in bed with me and got on top of me and was growling!
Very scary! |

Pretty crazy, it was felt around here, but not enough to wake me up I guess. My boyfriend thinks he heard some rattling that made sense when he found out about the earthquake, but he coulda just been dreaming, lol. I think it must have rattled our place a bit, cuz I noticed some tiny drywall pieces on our washer/dryer that came down from the piece of drywall covering the opening to the attic, that was already cracked. Wish I would have been awake.

We felt it here in STL. I woke up at 4:37 to all the doors rattling, things on the walls and shelves rattling, I could even hear the dishes all the way in our dining room china cabinet. I went right back to sleep when it was over...then thought it was a dream when I woke up! Had to turn on the news to see if it was real

Not a bad idea. On the WGN news this morning they were talking to some guy and he was asked if we, in the Chicagoland area, should get earthquake insurance, and the guy said probably not, but when something major happens on that New Madrid fault, Memphis could be in trouble.
