Humid Climate

If I may ask those of you who live or spend significant time in Playa and environs...

We have a condo in Playa and are wondering about the life span of cloth goods that we may store there. I'm sure that there will be degradation due to the high humidity over time. Is it better to store in sealed containers like Rubbermaid bins or something similar to make them stay in good condition longer?

TIA

The only way to keep things from mildewing and decaying is to run an air conditioner or dehumidifer 24/7. Bins are not going to be air/moisture tight, but perhaps vacuum bags might work a little better. If the air can get to them, the moisture can as well. Just be sure you don't put anything away with the least bit of dampness in it. The mold will eat it alive. I've stayed overnight in someone's condo in town (they are only here part of the year) and the bedding there about gagged me, the mildew was so bad! And I live here!

Good luck!

I agree with Susie (again) ...

Vacuum bags will do the trick. If you suck all the air out of these self sealing bags, you will be mold and mildew free as long as the bags remained sealed. The bags are very cheap, can be re-used, and deflated with any vacuum that has a hose attachment.

We have also used them to save space in our luggage while traveling.

While were there last week I went down to get a Bomberos shirt and asked about why no white ones. The guy said that they were slow sellers and when kept for w while they yellowed quickly from the conditions in Playa.
