Riu Palace Mexico: A few questions
Hello!
I'll be at the Riu Palace Mexico April 22-28 for my stepsister's wedding on the beach at the resort. Even though I know all the food/drinks/beach/pools/amenities will keep us at the Riu resorts for most of the time during our time in Playa, we obviously want to explore the town. How far is the walk to 5th Avenue from Riu Palace Mexico? Is there a city bus that stops close by the resort? Also, is there some kind of shopping area close to the Riu Palace Mexico, closer than downtown? I hear that you should use bottled water when brushing teeth...does that mean the water in the Riu's bathrooms is not filtered? I have never been to PDC, never been to an all inclusive, so of course I am out of my mind with excitement about the upcoming trip. For me, 2 days and counting until I see that amazing ice-blue water. Our group of 10 will be there before we know it! Thanks for your help.

You'll have a great time. We just got back from the Riu Palace Riviera Maya last night. On my daily beach walks, I would stop at the RPM's beach bar and have a cold one....or two...
There is a little post on the mirrors in bathroom stating water is not potable. We always used bottled water that is provided in the room. We would set out on large bottle on the bathroom counter each day (to brush with) so the water wouldn't be so cold on our teeth. No bus inside the playacar compound that I know of. Cab is $5 each way into town, but lots of people walked it. Maybe a 20-25 minute walk to 5th ave. Right across from the RPM is the Playacar shopping center with souviner shops, pharmacy etc. We thougt prices were better in town which would make sense because of more competition... I would highly recommend going into town for some shopping and dinning at least once. There have been several threads recently on playacar resorts (Sandos, Rius etc.) Again have a great vacation! The walk would take about 20-30 minutes, only 5 minutes by cab ($5.00).
The resort is in Playacar so busses and colectivos don't go past. You'd find both IN Playa. There is a small shopping center across the street. But head into Playa - MUCH MUCH more to see. The water at the hotel is not safe for drinking. Doesn't mean you have to use bottled water just to brush your teeth, but since it's supplied in your room, feel free to do so. Any other questions, let us know!

Thank you!
Thank you Playadreaming and Shammy! I appreciate the advice and answers, and yes, we are definitely going into town, probably a few times.
I can't believe I'm going. I don't think I'll want to come back. Even though it's been nice weather here in Connecticut lately, I'm looking forward to some real good old fashioned heat and humidity. Again, thank you for responding. Last edited by JimmyB; 04-20-2008 at 06:18 PM. |

You're right in that you probably won't want to leave. Walking into Playa is a nice walk. Depending on just how good of a time (Tequilla Barrel, Karen's Pizza etc.) you have in town, you can wobble back to the resort or cab it.
