we stayed around the corner from HC and El Fogon in March and ate there numerous times. both were great. HC closed earlier than El Fogon. El Fogon was open till midnite i think at both locations.

Thumbs down on Sr Preefer's typing of the word 'Constituyentes'.

It could have been a bad night, a one off. Maybe it'll improve next time.

As my trip report will attest I ate at both and liked the new one better for human comforts and found the food to be very comparable and yummy in both locations. Maybe I have little to compare against but would go back the either in a heartbeat!

Of course, it's possible for any restaurant to have a bad night, not trying to discount your experience at all.

Ditto. Other than the lack of smoke in your face I didn't notice any difference between the old location and the new.

El Fogon gone . I hope not. I will check it tonight . As for HC's. As good as ever as far as I'm concerned.

Ok. Ok.!! It probably deserves another chance.

I seem to be overwhelmed by those that have been to the new location on Constituyentes (hope Mindbender does not mind the spelling) and still love it. I am not the last word in taste and they could have just had a bad night when I went there. I will go again on my next trip and give it another shot. And I hope that the El Fogon is just getting a facelift, because I thought it was a pretty good imitation of the original location.

Also, I point out that I have updated the restaurant list (found at the beginning of this thread) By popular demand, I have alphabetized the list and included asterisks on those places that merit special attention. I still depend on feedback to keep the list complete and update changes in names and quality. Good eating!

I've eaten at the new location on Constituyentes a few times.

Each time I ate there, I found it very, very good, but in all honesty I didn't like it *quite* as much as the original location. My guess is that the grill hadn't fully seasoned (it looked way too clean for my taste!), so I'm looking forward to trying it again next month. Also, I think the grill at the new location is somewhat smaller, so perhaps there is more need for shuffling, cooking and setting aside, etc in order to meat (heh, heh, heh) the required volume.

In any event, even though it was still slightly less yummie than when I remembered, it was still "top of the charts" in Playa, IMHO.

We stopped by in April and picked up 15 kg raw for the Barby - 60 people down visiting from Calgary. They were very accommodating and included some extra sides...Minutes on the BBQ and everyone was in heaven.....Many had never had it before so it went from Suspicious of flank steak at first, followed by what a nice flavour and so tender followed by 2nds and 3rds...Licked up the platters - done! Somewhere in there the Don Julio jumped into the party too!!!
