How do you feel about NAFTA?
There are lots of pros and cons. The loss of American jobs, cheaper goods, fewer (or no) import duties. More jobs for some people. Good or bad?

tie it to reciprocal immigration and business start-up policies and it's a good thing....... without that, it may be time to pull the plug........ oh yeah, driver's education mandatory for Mexican truck drivers!!!

I have seen a lot of negative and very little positive. The whole "free" in the acronym NAFTA is a misnomer, IMHO. It seems to have been nothing more than the same trickle-down economics B.S. we have been getting for years. How have consumers benefitted? Why weren't there provisions for things like allowing the importation of Canadian and Mexican pharmaceuticals? In the U.S., there are too many interests that politicans are beholden to in order to pass a "real" free trade agreement.

I would have to say that it was, at best, poorly thought out and has has significant negative effects.
OXFAM amongst others have a done quite a bit of research on the subject. Last edited by Just Lucky : 04-21-2008 at 10:13 PM. |

I doubt that, these days. But we sure could use some more people to come work up here right now with our boom. I think we should loosen up our immigratoion rules and bring in more people. There are only so many Newfies, right, Jan.![]() |

Mixed feelings, one way I feel it is good for the US econom some what, because it does open up other markets. However most of the markets being opened up do not allow as much foreign investment as the US does, so our hands are still tied behind our backs a little.

Of course there are going to be some people who slip through the cracks, and they do need to crack down on them a lot harder. But there are lots of people, the vast majority of immigrants, who come here for a better life, work hard and are great citizens.![]() |
