Question Barcelos, Iberos Oh MY! AI's for teens

There are so many of these properties, I can't keep them straight! From what I have read, the best IB property right now is the ones that are in the complex with the Grand (Adult Only) but I can't figure out what the difference is btwn all the family IB's there. Also lots of talk about Barcelos, but which one is best? Or do you like another AI better?

I will be traveling with spouse, 19 yr, 18 yr and 14 year old. We like the beach and food is important. We went on a cruise and the two younger (16 and 12 at the time) had such a good time they came back grounded/ punished! haha They both really enjoyed the teen programs and meeting kids from other places - in fact they still correspond with some of them. I have only been to Secrets Capri with hubby so don't have a reference of large (how large is too large? I don't want to have to take a golf cart to the beach) and which ones are best for teens.

Well, we've stayed at the IB Lindo, as well as the Tucan/Quetzal and totally enjoyed the Iberostar service. The beaches were fantastic, as were the rooms and the food. My teenaged daughter and pre-teen son loved both places. Of the two Iberostar resorts, the Tucan/Quetzal is much smaller, and has a gorgeous jungle running through it. We are very much beach people though, so when we decided to come back to Playa this summer, we booked the Barcelo Colonial.Tropical. I know that the resort is enormous (maybe larger than what you are looking for), but from everything I have seen and heard, the beach there is second to none in the Playa area. Right now, the beaches along some of the resorts in Playacar, including the IB, are not in very good shape. They are trying to reclaim the beaches with those big sand whales, but there's no telling whether that's going to be a successful endeavor.

Good luck with your resort hunting!
