Lounge Chairs for sale?
any locals have suggestions on where to send me to buy 2 lounge chairs for my PDC home's terrace? I called some of the furniture stores in PDC but nobody seems to carry outdoor furniture. Specifically looking for something with a modern style to it that is heavy in weight and more of a designer style instead of the ones that are more for the beach or the inexpensive loungers that one sees at the resorts.
Any suggestions on if there is store specifically for patio furnishings in the Cancun or PDC area would be greatly appreciated! ![]() |

Manuk, the owner of Karma Six (on 10th ave. just off Constituyentes), just opened a store on the Hwy 307 (towards Cancun on the East side of the highway) with a large red chair out front that specializes in teak patio furniture at good prices. There is a large banner on the store, but the 15 foot high red chair should be the tip off. The furniture is very nice.

Any other suggestions, as that place doesn't have what I'm looking for either. I'm so puzzled by the lack of furniture items, bed linens, frames, lamps, chandeliers, patio furniture, and in general home accessories available in and around Playa. Starting to think I need to look into opening a Bed Bath and Beyond type store in towne, as there seems to be enough selection for bookcases, sofas and beds, and electronics, but not all the fluff one needs too, to make a home a home.
Does anyone know of a framing shop in the city as well? I'd like to bring some posters with me on my next trip and frame them while I'm there, so avoid the hassle with the airplane. So again, mainly looking for patio and terrace furniture at this time, but also interested if anyone knows of a store from Cancun to Akumal specializing in home accessories like bedspreads, linens, framed art, like the merchandise one would find at stores like Linens & Things, Bed Bath & Beyond, Pier 1 Imports, that would be great to know. |

This is the best place for framing. Although we avoid paper prints because of the humidity which can cause rippling and staining. You might be OK, you might not.
http://www.playa.info/playa-del-carm...shop-pare.html Our business is designing, decorating and furnishing people's condos here. If you want to save yourself the agony let me know. We also make furniture, curtains and blinds, etc. As for interesting outdoor furniture, it is about, usually with limited stocks or only by order so you'll have to wait a few weeks. Because of import taxes etc prices can be much higher than you'd expect. I'm always wary of putting teak in client's properties as the sun and humidity can be punishing, cracking the wood and turning the varnish grey. Then there the fungus too! The seller should tell you to treat the wood with linseed oil on a regular basis, which is impossible when you don't live here. |

I think she's after more quality designer pieces. The problem with stuff from Walmart etc is they're not aluminium based and they can rust very quickly here, even with a paint coating, especially when you're nearer to the seafront in Playa. So you think you're getting a bargain but then it gets in a mess. That includes fans, computers etc.
One client had already bought their own wrought iron bar stools with leather seats. Within a month the metal was covered in rust, staining your hands brown, and the leather had green mould on it. It's a jungle here, you know. |

Altho with every visit, Playa is vastly improving with what is available - its a crapshoot with what you will find and what you want to find! So if its the 'fluff' stuff you're looking for - like specific colours, blends, brands for home accessories, honestly we've learned you're still better off getting that at home at Linens'n'Things, Home Outfitters etc as you will have a much better choice. If you own a home in playa don't be thinking you'll be able to just come in hand luggage! There is always something that has broken, rotted, rusted that needs replacing!
There is (or at least used to be) a Pier 1 located in Sears, in the Las Americas mall in Cancun. Its just a small section so not a huge selection, but we did manage to get some stuff there rather than drag things down from here. Sams and Costco vary in their availability of linens/towels and colours and quality are not consistent. We bring all linens (except beach towels - good thick ones usually available at costco and sometimes Sams) from home. Its amazing how much stuff you can stuff into a golf bag. Last month it brought down 5 30" sofa pillows! The hard case golf bag has brought things like silk plants and baskets, curtain rods and other gidgets! If you are buying metal things.....either don't or make sure it is of the highest quality or it will rust. We initally bought a cutlery set from costco in cancun.....it was rusty in less than a month and had not been used yet! We returned it (they were great about that) and ended up buying another set at home to take down - it must be at least 18/10 stainless (18/8 rusted!). Same goes for things like pepper mills with metal guts.....rusted out and we ended up getting the ceramic guts inserted ones from home. You can either choose to buy less quality items down there but you may be replacing them a lot sooner, or buy better quality items at home which generally last longer - if they don't go for a walk first!! |

We took down some cheap Ikea cutlery about 3 and a half years ago and have had no problem with it at all. We either got really lucky or it's better than I thought but was only $9.99 or something like that for a 4 X 5 piece place settings. I have heard numerous people complain about cutlery though.
If you are renting your place out, DON'T put a lot of money in your furnishings. Things disappear and/or get broken. We have a terrible time keeping big bowls (like for chips or salads, etc.) at our place. You'd think you could find them easily at Walmart or Mega, but not really. We got a mattress at Sam's years ago and got one of the truck guys to deliver it right away. Worked out great and the mattress is still quite comfy -pillow topped. Still, I agree to bring what you can from home so you are not spending valuable "Playa time" running around. Or, use Mindbender's services. Make a new friend too! |
