Teaching

We are getting ready to come down for our 4th summer in a row! So excited!!!! I have been really talking to others about how bad I want to live there for the summer and teach school. Does anyone on the forum or do any of the locals know how to get that information?? I am a 9 year certified teacher in the houston area. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreaciate it. I would love to meet someone who does this when I come in July. Thanks so much!!!!!

you need a teaching of english as a foreign language certificate (toefl). This is a workshop type intensive course, some schools can do it as a two week class. Then you have to apply for a license to teach in Mexico. The pay is even lower than it is here in the States, but the students are extremely respectful and appreciative b/c they know that their employment opportunities improve in Mexico and in the US if they speak English.

Thanks for your response. Is that course only offered in Mexico or an it be done in the states? It seems like everything I see online says you have to travel for that course. Let me know if you have any info on that.

Another challenge will be to find an employer who's willing to go through the hassle of getting you a work visa (FM3) if you're only staying for a few months. You would also have to start the process way ahead of time; it can take a couple of months to get it.

Yeah, I am thinking summer 09. It seems that it is not as easy as I was thinking and it may never be possible. It is just something that I was thinking would be so fun, rewarding, and would give me an opportunity to live there for a summer! Thanks for your response too.
