What's the Best Compliment You Ever Got?
What's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to you about yourself? I saw some article about the best compliment to pay someone and I started wondering... still thinking about what mine might be. So, use someone else's words here to brag on yourself a little and tell us what your favorite compliment ever has been.

Don't really know if it's my favorite, or the best, compliment that I've ever received, but it is surely the one that popped into my head the instant I read your post...
High school, a really cute boy in the next-door English class, had borrowed a book from me that we were having to read. When he finished reading it a few days later, he returned it to me one afternoon as I was getting in the car to go home. He had written a thank you note to me and left it in the book. I don't remember the specifics of the thank you, but I remember the P.S. as if it were yesterday - "PS - you have a BEAUTIFUL smile!" Brings back some good memories! |

I don't know if this is the best compliment I've ever gotten but......when I return from work when I have been on vacation, or days off...co-workers of mine that work in Newark NJ say "Where have you been? We missed you. Thank God you're back, you can never go on vacation or days off again
![]() . We love working with you!" It's nice to know that my work is appreciated by fellow co-workers!![]() Last edited by Doggiemom : 04-26-2008 at 08:55 AM. |

Professionally, I know what it is.
We did a review of our office a few years ago. Hired a consultant who came in and did interviews, a survey and focus groups. A woman I had worked closely with - A Speech dept chair, told me that she had told the consultant that I had been both comforting and empowering when it came to applying research methods to the Speech Program Review. I thought it was good ![]() |

One of my photographs was used in a BBC documentary about miscarriages of justice and included in a photography BA curriculum.
One of my subtitle translations - "Paper Moon" - is still being used by a worldwide subtitle translation company as a benchmark for new translators. I don't need compliments to be directed at me, it's enough to know I can do something right. Last edited by Daddy B : 04-26-2008 at 07:56 PM. |

I think the nicest compliment I ever received was from a very good friend, years ago. I don't remember how it came up, but he said, "Heather, listen. You walk into a room and every single person in it is drawn to you, no one can take their eyes off you."
I'll never forget that one.Another nice one came a couple of weeks ago, when someone complimented me on my blog by telling me that I write just the way I would talk. Seeing as my goal is modeled after Wordsworth's, to use "language really used by men," I was very flattered. ![]() |

don't know if it's "the best", but my most memorable would be 4 years ago when I still had a pony tail...... my best man's father was on his death bed 4 years .... I was holding his hand and though he barely had the lung capacity to even speak, he looked up and said......
"you know, I don't care for long hair on men, but it sure looks good on you" ....... the world lost a great man the next morning.... r.i.p. Wayne |

Maybe not the best compliment ever, but at the company I work for (over 30,000 employees) they give out 200 - 300 or so "awards of excellence" each year. These are nominations by your peers and then judged and awarded by senior executive. I won one if these awards three years in a row, nominated by three different groups of people, when I was working three separate temporary positions - so I think that's kinda cool!
