Cool ok need some expert help

We will be traveling down from Texas the end of June, first week of July. Our group will be 2 or 3 couples, no children celebrating our anniversaries.
We would like a semi-luxurious all-adult resort. Although most of us would be happy just hanging at the beach and pool, a couple of the guys I think would like more activity and perhaps fishing. Us girls are happy with a massage and some beach reading time. I don't want to be too far from Playa b/c of the great shopping, dining and bars-- I'm afraid the taxis would eat up my tequila budget
I'm open to y'alls suggestions and thanks in advance.

I'd say that really the only resort that truly fit the criteria you mentioned would be the Royal Playa Del Carmen. The Playacar Palace might be another good bet-not adults only, but doesn't really cater to kids, so there aren't many of them.

That was my first thought too. Right off 1st and Constituentes (sp?) on the beach. Couldn't be a better location.

Welcome back Purpleprinces!

Gran Porto Real would be another good one, right across the street from the Royal.....but, they will have kids there.

The Royal is a good pick. If you want to go even higher up the food chain, check out the Royal Hideaway in Playacar. Just a quick 5 dollar cab ride from downtown.

Having just returned from the Gran, I don't think this hotel qualifies as "semi-luxurious", and can't be compared to the Royal in more than just the adults only vs. family friendly aspect. Trust me, what you're describing is the Royal - if you want to be adults only, close to town, good food and drinks, decent service...that's the Royal.

Where to go

In my opinion one of the best resorts is the Gran Bahia Principe Coba. There are 3 hotels on the resort - Coba, Tulum, and Akumal. It is about 25 minutes south of Playa, and you never need to take a cab. Take the bus - it cost $2 or 20 pesos per adult and saves you a ton. Go to applevacations.com
My wife and daughter and I will be down there in 30 days. ;-)

Hi Laporte! My dad actually works at Dupont in Laporte. I grew up in Baytown, not far. We stayed at the royal last year with another couple and LOVED IT! We are in our 30's and had a blast! This year we are doing one of the boutique hotels. We will be down there July 5-12....Will you be there at that time???
