Senate discusses banning truck decoration

TALLAHASSEE - State senators revisited an issue left hanging yesterday - the increasingly popular feature usually found dangling from the hitches of pickup trucks that are accurate reproductions of the male anatomy.

And, at least on an initial vote, the item will be banned under language that prohibits the display of decorations resembling "reproductive glands."

Republican Sen. Carey Baker of Eustis said the features are inappropriate for display.

But on Wedneseday, Sen. Jim King, R-Jacksonville, protested saying it is popular in his district and, "It's an expression of just truckiness."

With groups of schoolchildren looking on from the gallery, and Senate President Ken Pruitt seemingly none too pleased at the nature of the discussion, senators restrained themselves using vague language.

An amendment to a larger transportation bill, it now moves on to a final vote.

Apparently these are big in the US? testicles hanging from semi trailers? Nice. Classy!
So do you agree they should be banned or is that too much against your freedom of expression?

I noticed they have a variety of colour choices. Blue was only one of them.


I think the Florida legislature needs to find something better to do with their time.

Back a few months ago, there were lots of pick-ups driving around Tampa sporting these. Legislate them? NO. The police have enough to worry about without adding fake balls dangling from a bumper to their list. I rather see them giving out tickets for people talking on cell phones! Mike and I have been rear-ended 4 times in the past two years by people (women) with a cell phone pressed to their ear!

Regarding the "balls," I just thought they were plain STUPID. I actually haven't seen any for quite awhile now. Guess they are going out of fashion like all those similarly stupid "Baby Onboard" "Shelties Onboard," etc., signs....

They are shorter and lighter, however they have not lost the hefty, fullness of the O r i g i n a l Bulls Balls® and Big Boy Nuts™.

Is this really an issue? Losing the hefty fullness?

Maggie I see these from time to time around town and personnally I think it's pretty tacky. Yeah they're funny when you first see them, but all in all it's pretty tacky. I equate it to walking by a t-shirt shop at the beach, you see some funny sayings on the shirts and then you see some that are just tacky. I guess it bothers me more now that I have a 10 year old daughter.
