Can any of you that have visited the Mayan Palace estimate (based on your experience) how much more complete it will be by mid-summer 2002? I also found a great deal for the place. Is it worthy of a honeymoon? I'm looking for a place where we can have some quiet time but one that also has access to fun activities.
Also, did anyone travel to any ruins/cool beaches nearby that they'd recommend? I've heard that the 'Riviera Maya' part of the Yucatan is especially beautiful and has the best beaches - would you agree? [ This Message was edited by: jbergers on 2002-02-21 01:34 ] |

The MP wont be finish until around 2005. Atleast that is what I was told by the staff. Honeymoon, I don't know. A bunch of friends, yes. My girlfreind would bitch to no end if I took her there for a honeymoon. There is only one restuarant and one regular bar open. The is also 1 or 2 swim up bars.
As far a Ruins, we took the bus to Tulum. It was pretty cool and worth seeing. There is a nice small beach there if you want to make a day of it. Bring a lot of water. It is HOT!!! I think it was like 3-4 USD to get it. Beaches, PDC is looked nice. It's a nice little town. I would recommend going to Cozemel too. It's a 15USD R/T. We went snorkeling, very cool. You can spend a couple days just there. We had a lot of fun but I would wait till their done to go back. If you have any other questions let me know. Kevin |

I would agree with Kevin on this one jbergers. Obviously the construction will be further along, but there is lots of work left to do and would be skeptical about having a honeymoon there. On the other hand, the noise does stop at night so you'll just have to find out how much the wife will be able to tolerate (if the deal is too good to pass up). There is lots to do throughout the day and the music by the pool drowns the noise out so you don't really hear it until you are walking past it.
As for ruins, there is lots to see such as Tulum, chichen itza and others. Tulum has a beautiful beach as Kevin pointed out. Other experiences such as Cozumel, Xel-ha, Xcaret are worth a visit as well. It all depends on how busy you want to be. Hope this helps! Dagen |

durangov8: re the required insurance for rental cars using a credit card. I know that American Express will cover you in any country while renting a car. Don't know about other companies, but A
MX definitely does. |

My husband and I are considering mayan palace cancun for vacation in june. based on what i have read, i think i might look into someplace else and wait til this place is finished. What is the bus service like from the Mayan Palace to Cancun? Is it somewhat convenient? What hours of the day do the buses run (do they stop at a particular time)? I was planning to stay in Cancun originally, and when I made arrangments to stay at Mayan Palace I didn't realize how far it is to Cancun! This is ok with me, I just want to be able to get up to Cancun at least a couple times while staying there. I would like to have min. 1 night out in Cancun, so I'd be heading back to MP kind of late, maybe around midnight. What are my transportation options between MP and Cancun? Any info/experience with this is appreciated! Thanks!

I took the Mayab bus service into Cancun from the Mayan Palace last month. It was 30 pesos per person (roughly $3) The bus picks up outside the entrance to the MP about every half hour. They make several stops along the way and end up at the bus station downtown. We were told the last bus leaves Cancun at midnight, but we took a cab back.
Have fun! |
