I will be arriving at the Mayan Palace on Feb 1, 2002. The info I have is little to none. I called the hotel and they said all the rooms and pools are complete. Can anyone confirm this? I know the golf course is not. I don't play golf so I don't care. Has anyone been there yet?

Yeah,

We're heading to the Palace during feb vacation and have little or no info on the place. Do you know what the closest landmark is to it? How far from PDC?

Our flights get in late, and leave way early. What's the best place to stay near the airport the night before?

I just got my confirmation for the Mayan Palace cancun. RCI runs the resort but I got the rooms through a travel auction site. check out this site

It's not that great but some info is better than none.

The resort is only about 15 mins from playa del carmen. Check out http://www.playadelcarmeninfo.com

I called the hotel and the guy total me it's about 60% complete! The I asked what isn't complete? He responed that the Golf course, kiddie water park, store, and 2 restuarants. I will not be using those items so I don't care. There is a store in PDC to buy food and booze.
He said all rooms and pools are complete.
The number I called was 800-292-9446. I would be interest in what you find out. Please report back.

I'm going Feb 1-8. When are you going?

Thanks
Kevin

Mayan Palace Cancun is actually about 12 miles north of Playa Del Carmen between the Carousel Villas and Playa De Secreto. I think it will be next door to the new Iberostar Parisio (sp?).

The resort will be less than a 45 minute bus trip to the airport - shorter if a taxi or shuttle is taken.

We will be there Jan 26th.

What are the options of travel from the airport to Mayan Palace? I read on this site that it costs $58 USD to have a van drive you and your party. I have 6 people coming with me. I have only been to mexico (Acapulco) once before and if you went out to the parking lot from the airport you could get a taxi at 75% less than inside.

We are also going to the Mayan Palace from March 9 to 14. Got a great Getaway Deal from RCI! For that price we will deal with some construction. It would be great if you could post a little report when you get back. Have a wonderful trip! We are also staying in PDC for 2 nights prior to the Mayan Palace.

I just returned from the Mayan Palace. I was there from Jan 4th - Jan 11th. The place is very much under construction. The beach area is less than 10% complete, with no area in the water cleared of rocks, and swimming in the ocean not possible. There are bulldozers, track-hoes, bobcats, etc. everywhere, including on the beach, and in the water.
Listening to jackhammers while in your room and by the pool is experienced daily.
No elevators were working, but there are only 3 stories, so not too big a deal.
Expect long walks to and from the front desk area and the parking areas.

The Pool area is great, there is no hot tub area, or fitness area, yet. The pool water was quite cold, like it had just been filled, but this will change quickly. The Snack Bar serves drinks and food at the pool area, but it is pricy and not very good.
The Safes in the room are for rent, at $11 USD per week. The cost to get an outside line is $3/call not including any tolls.
The Rooms are nice, bathrooms nice, and general layout of the property is nice, and will be great when complete. The staff indicated completion of the property in 2 years. It is easy to identify from the main road 307. It is well lit, and has a huge wall entrance with Mayan Palace in a huge letters on the stone wall, and it has a left turn lane into the property.

Overall, I would stay there again, but I would wait until after completion to return. I ended up just using it for a place to sleep, and traveling the 15min to Playa del Carmen every day for breakfast, shopping, and the beach. It is a nice central location if you are going to be traveling north to cancun, 35min, and south to PDC. I had a rental car, which made the traveling much more easy. I spoke with others who had to use public transportation, and it was not so easy for them, especially the 15 minute walk to the main gate from the hotel area.

If anyone has any specific questions, I will try to answer.

Marko,

Does Mayan offer a shuttle to Playa?

How much is a taxi into Playa?

Why is there no swimming on the beach?

As far as I have learned there is no shuttle service from the Mayan Palace to Playa Del Carmen. Taxi cost seems to be 16 to 17 dollars.
I have heard it is only 1/2 mile to the highway where you can catch a bus for a few bucks. I think the 1/2 mile is not accurate, by my calculations from Can-Do Maps it is about 1.5 miles.....but who knows?

My deal is ending up like not a deal. Light construction I don't mind but heavy construction like jackhammers and earthmovers I do. I can stay in the states for that. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest. How bad was the noise. I hope went I'm there it wont be as loud. Do you know if the jack hammers are temperary?
How are the beachs in PDC? Did you feel unsafe at all?
What is the nightlife like in PDC?
Thanks
Kevin
