Town Hall Meeting For American Living in Playa

The US Consulate will be having its first area "Town Hall" Meeting in Playa del Carmen to discuss issues that may be of importance to Americans living in the area. The tentative date for the meeting is May 20, from 6 - 8 pm. We are still awaiting confirmation from the venue. The topics to be discussed at the first meeting will be Federal Benefits and experts from the Embassy will be coming to discuss the issue. The other primary topic will be Voting from abroad and a discussion about voting procedures. We would also like to reserve some time for questions and concerns of locally residing Americans as a way to prepare for future meetings and also for the ability to address what the US Consulate can do to assist Americans who are living abroad. We are hoping to have a good turn out, so please keep the date in mind. If you have any specific issues you would like information on.... please feel free to PM me and I will try to prepare an answer for your specific question.
Also, we are hoping that this meeting will give the American Community that is living here a chance to meet each other and socialize and for this purpose, I was thinking to have a happy hour at a local restaurant. If any of you are local restaurant owners / managers and would like to have your facility involved with this, please PM me.

I light of Andy&Jen's lastest thread "Beware the latest taxi scam", I thought that it would be appropriate to move this thread up to remind people that it would be important for as many people as possible to attend this meeting. Andy&Jen's "run in" with the taxista and police would certainly be a great discussion topic.

The meeting will be held at the Playa del Carmen City Hall Complex Auditorium on the ground floor. For those of you unfamiliar with this... It is located next to Walmart, one block closer to the ocean. The address is 20 Av / C 8 y C 10. So see you all there at 6pm on Tuesday May 20. Again, if you have any specific questions, please PM me so that I can have a specific answer prepared. Can someone who received the email invitation, please post it here... I am kind of a dummy and can not figure out how to copy and paste it here. And, I would so appreciate if one of the moderators could make this thread sticky until after the meeting...
