I was there last July and it was often ridiculous. More so around the pool than on the beach, though the beach wasn't a picnic either. I have started a new policy; I won't move anything personal (ie. flip flops, glasses, books, etc.), but I will toss a lone towel if I am out there at a reasonable time and there is no one in sight. Of course I am a 6'4", 240 lb ex college baseball player and people tend to not get too excited when they find that I absconded with "their" spot.

Hello to all staying at the Royal June/July. Just booked our trip from June 30th - July 8th. Never been there, nor to Mexico, and am looking forward to it! Last year we went to Punta Cana, but I wanted something that wasn't so remote this year.
I can't speak for this resort, but from the other AI's I have been to (always mid summer), I learned not to play the towel game. If there is a chair open, great, if not, I will just stay in the pool and leave my towel near the edge. On the beach, I don't care if it is close to the water. That's what walking is for. I have to wake up at 6AM during the year to get my two youngest off to school, so the last thing I want to do while on vacation is get up early to get a chair. NOT. 8 of us went last year in June. The resort is great so you will enjoy it. We didnt have too many problems with towels or chairs that I remember. We would get out by the pool early though and stake out a spot. ENJOY!
