First Time Visitor
My fiance and I will be spending our honeymoon down there in April 2004. I need some information!!! What is the best resort to stay at (that is reasonably priced)? Also, I am a plus size gal. Do they have any shops there or in Cancun that offer clothing to plus sized women??? Please HELP!

I am far too lazy to look it up, but somewhere down there; there is an entire resort that caters to those who are not into the Kate Moss look.
I read about it in the travel section of the local paper. |

I believe the place Juanito is referring to is Freedom Paradise. It's slogan is "The size-friendly vacation club." It is located in Tankah. According to their web site, they plan to open another location in Cancun sometime in 2003.

Many Mexican fashions adapt well to any body type. The Poncho is an unfitted one size item that's basically a blanket with a hole cut in it for the head. Worn with a sweater, it's very warm even in early winter. There are also one size swimwear wraps. I don't know if they came from the Pacific Islands or are a Mexican thing. They're called paraeyu (sp?).
Camisa de jugo come in all sizes and colors, plain and with logos. The best one size stuff that Mexico has to offer is not clothes. Mexico is most known for it's Mexican Silver. If it's real Mexican Silver it requires little upkeep and polishing. There are earrings, necklaces, bracelets and much more in all shapes and sizes. |

I do not know about the availability of plus-sized clothing in Cancun, but when I was in PdC earlier this summer I did not have much luck finding shops that sell plus-sized garments and beachwear. What I did find were hand-made, embroidered blouses that two Mayan women were selling on Quinta avenida. If I remember correctly, their stalls were between calles 10 and 12, on the right hand side of la Quinta, going north. The clothes that the women had for sale did not have sizes marked on them, but they did have blouses in stock that were around 2X-3X. As Brian mentioned in an earlier reply, pareos or sarongs are readily available in several shops in PdC.

Playa Car
We have been back now for over three weeks and are still suffering the post holiday blues. We went there on our honeymoon and stayed at the Reef Club hotel, Playa Car. To be honest as far as local people were concerned we spent two weeks there and found them to be one of, if not the most friendly nationalities we had come across. We had all shape and sizes staying at our hotel and being bigger myself I dont think I have felt so relaxed on a beach holiday. Just be yourself and have fun, at the end of the day if other people don't like it then they are the one with the problem. BIG IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!
