Christmas in Playa

We plan on traveling to Playa at Christmas and were wondering where would be a good spot to take a family of 7 (yes 7). They range in age from 23 to 16. A nice beach would be an asset. My wife loves the ocean and would not like a lot of rocks and sea weed if possible. The 3 boys and 2 girls are all athletic so things like beach volleyball would be great. If the rooms are clean that would be a plus. My wife would say a must LOL. We went to Punta Cana a few years ago and had a very nice holiday at the Punta Cana Princess. I have read a lot of nice things about Playa but I know the voice of experience is in this forum. So please feel free to give me an opinion about some places that might suit us best. Thanks in advance.

Riu or Iberostar

Take a look at the Riu or Ibersostar chains both a number of resorts in the Playa area at different prices. Ocean is great no rocks or seaweed. Most of the ai are quiet at night. Night life is on 5th avenue in Playa. Most AI's have beach volleyball plus free boogie boards and sailboats.

I would lean towards the Riu Yucatan. Great location service is top notch. Rooms are clean and food is great. Playacar is a $5.00 cab ride to Playa. The night life at the riu's is the best in the area. Thats my opinion.

What about Gran Porto? It's an AI walking distance from 5th and there's a nice beach and lots of (sportif) activities during the day. I bet your kids would like the location better than Playcar area, if you just can take it

Sorry - forgot to say that Gran Porto belongs to Real chain. You can also find many TR's here telling about the experiences on the hotel.

Thumbs up 5th ave would be great!!!

Thanks Isomami:
There are a lot of good reports on the Royal which is next door. I did not get the same warm fuzzy when reading about the Grand. The location would, however, be very good.

Yes, Royal did look better, but our budget wasn't as nice Gran Porto was a good choice with reasonable price for us. If I understood right, Royal does not allow small children, so for your family it might be better in that sense too, having young adults and all
You reminded me nicely about our last Xmas in Playa, so I started to daydream about the next one...
