Peeps the Angel Notion needs your support

Hey, all of you Peeps that plan on being in PDC during May and June...don't forget to bring your bottles of 81mg aspirin to help support the Angel Notion. I've posted about this before...but here is a recap...

The Angel Notion is supporting 120 of their children who have had heart surgery and need to take 81mg (low dose) aspirin every day for years - but it is totally unavailable in Mexico....please, please, please bring at least one bottle and several if you can...I've found the best prices at WalMart and Target where you can find 300 tablets for less than $5. You can bring the bottles in a plastic bag to my condo and leave them on the balcony on 32nd St N and 1st Ave - Capri Condos Apt. C1 (second stairway 1st level towards the beach). My property manager will take them in.

This is an awesome way for all of us to help support a worthy cause and give back in a small way to a wonderful community and their children.

Let me know if any of you have questions. Thanks to the May Peep group for organizing themselves and collecting the aspirin. If there is a June Peep Meet, I'll do the collecting of aspirin.

I was wondering about that. We bought the "regular" type- but you have no idea how long we agonized over which type to buy Who knew there were so many types of 81 mg aspirin?? Coated, uncoated, supercoated, chewable, capsules, etc.... At least 3 elderly people were able to make their aspirin choices in the time it took us to pick something out We almost missed our boat....

I know!!! And add one more thing to your list - Enteric - what the heck does that mean?? Standing there in the aisle - "What kind to buy???" I finally just picked one up and walked away from the aspirin. I've also come to the conclusion (rationalization maybe?) that even if I had the type that wasn't needed for the purpose that Playa Mama posted, it could be used by Angel Notion somehow!

You are all right - there is an amazing array of choices of aspirin. All we need to do is bring some...makes no difference what kind as long as it is 81mg. The need is greater than the fancy differences different companies try to make, so make it the cheapest kind - the biggest bang for your buck.

And thanks!!

My property manager found a bag on my balcony early this week with half a dozen bottles of aspirin in it. Thanks to the unknown awesome person who left them.

Enteric- that's the thing that had me the most stumped

Playa mama- I went with the cheapest in the end. 300 for something like $3.50. I have 3 of them- I figured more would possibly make customs suspicious This way I can put one in each bag....

Enteric means the aspirin is coated with a timed release coating that allows it to pass out of the stomach and into the digestive system before dissolving so that it reduces the chance of stomach upset from regular aspirin use.

If you can afford to purchase the enteric coated aspirin, great! If not, the regular kind will be just as appreciated.

That was us! I'm so glad someone found it - the system works!! We felt kind of conspicuous leaning over the wall of your balcony and setting them there. We bought them at Costco (here at home)...less than $5 a bottle. Going through customs they asked us why all the bottles of pills and when we told them it was aspirin for sick children they just smiled and waved us on. It feels so good to be able to do something - even when it's something so small.
Thank you for what you're doing!

No, I won't be in Playa until June 12th. But, see my earlier post for directions and you can drop them off at my condo. I don't know where you are staying, but it's a great walk up 1st Ave or 5th Ave to see all the new building going on in Playa.

The other things you can bring that will fit easily into your one suitcase and will really help the Angel Notion clinic are elastic bandages of every size and shape, antibiotic cream (like Neosporin) but get the generic brands, and size 13 hearing aid batteries.

Thanks to everyone who donates...the peeps on the forum never let me down!

When you say elastic bandages, do you mean an Ace wrap or are you talking about something like Coban? I am working at he hospital today and will visit with my coworkes to see if any of them are interested in making supply donations, as well. I was also asked by my mother if the kids needed tooth brushes/tooth paste as it is something they donate to a place in Nicaragua. Just let me know.

I am hoping to fill an entire suitcase full of supplies to bring down. Daddio is a little nervous about bringing all of the asprin. I told him, what are they going to do? The worst they can do is take it away from us. Right? I read on here where another peep was questioned about the amount of asprin coming into the country and once it was explained, all was good.

LEt me know if you need more and I'll try to post my results of what I'm able to get from co-workers.

Just to cover myself...I am checking with the FDA to make sure I'm not going to have any problems exporting the medical supplies. I have contact other federal agencies today and they are who I have been referred to. I'll keep y'all posted!

I wouldn't contact any authorities if I were in your shoes...who needs the hassle and why would they care...it's the Mexican customs people who care what you bring into the country.

When I get asked I say "Donacion para los ninos a la Angel Notion clinica en Playa". Nobody ever hassles me.

But, yes, toothbrushes and toothpaste are a good donation item also. Sorry I didn't make it clear about the elastic bandages - I'm talking about ACE bandages. Thanks for taking up the cause...they can use all the help and supplies they can get.
