Smile More questions about GRP/GSP

First off, I have read ALOT of the threads on this resort but I'm sure I missed a few so I apologize if my questions are repeats.

We are planning a trip in November with 2 children (8 & 6) and are new to the Riviera Maya/Cancun area. We have friends who are traveling around the same time as us but they are staying in Cancun at the Crown Paradise Club. After finding this site by accident though, I'm leaning towards staying at the GRP/GSP. Here's my questions (finally!):

Has anyone stayed at the GSP with younger children and used the kids club? If so, how was it? We won't use it all the time but would like to take advantage of it now and then.

We are hoping to swim with the dolphins and I'm wondering how far that would be from the resort? I checked a number of different booking sites and never found anything that tells you the location/s. Has anyone done the Royal Garrafon and Dolphin Encounter?

What are the major differences between staying in Cancun vs Riviera Maya/PDC? I hope it's okay to ask that on this thread instead of starting a new one!

Oh, and one more: I used the link that Shammy posted for apple vacations but GSP wasn't on there. It is on the main apple vacations site but is there a price difference?
TIA!

The hotel zone is high rise resorts with shopping malls spaced throughout. I don't consider it pedestrian friendly. I can take it in small doses, but there is much more charm down here and no high rises.
Although not totally fair, I always consider Cancun a party-till-you-drop (or puke) frat party destination. Okay...not fair. Just perception.

Sorry...i have nothing regarding your other questions
Enjoy yourself!

I am here now and have taken my kids to the Kids Club twice and there has been maybe a kid or two in them so if they are looking for friends then you might as well not send them to the kids club. My daughter loves the Kids Disco at 8 pm every night. I think you can swim with dolphins at Xcaret which is about 25 minutes away. But with young kids I reccomend Xelha and they have swimming with dolphins but it is more like 50 minutes away. Cancun hotel zone has everything a lot closer. Most of the resorts are on one side where the ocean is and restaurants and clubs on the bay side. I prefer Cancun to Riviera Maya. Closer to shopping and restaurants and such. If you do book for GSP then I would do Platinum so you get room service because right now there is no food service outside. Also, on GRMP side there is construction so make sure you get GSP. I booked GSP via bookit.com. Hope this helps ya!

My husband and I are going to the GSP in October, along with another couple.
We booked through Apple and upgraded to the Junior Deluxe rooms with pool access. What are the chances that we actually won't get that room upon arrival? I've been reading other posts also and got that impression from other people. I would assume since we booked that room at the time we made the initial reservation, it should be available to us.........?
Would you recommend us contacting the hotel ahead of time to make sure? Thanks!

Well, apparently we were at 90% capacity when we were there, although it did not feel like it. We just flew home yesterday. I mostly got what I asked for except I wanted to be on the 3rd floor and I got 2nd. No biggy, the only reason I wanted 3rd because of the dreaded stories of mosquitos and I figured the higher I went the better off I'd be. I think all that asked for pool access rooms pretty much got them. Tipping never hurts though if you have trouble. I really do reccomend Platinum though because I think it will improve your experience 10 fold. The only problem with people getting rooms I saw was a group that were there for a wedding had like 8 rooms together and 1 room was far away from the group and they told her to come back the next day and they would have something for her so that is always an option too. Just ask when it is going to be available.
