Best thread? Surely you jest. If you want a thread to continue, bring something original, novel or different to the discussion. And not just you UGA, but everyone. This pointless spouting of well-rehearsed and formula dogma - by all sides - is tiresome and is utterly non-productive. Everybody involved knows their viewpoint is the only correct one, and has no interest or inclination to alter their position in any meaningful way. That's to be expected in any discussion involving religion. Everybody is preaching to the choir. As tedious as that is, it can probably be tolerated, until the time when it deteriorates into hurtful personal attacks. At that juncture, euthanize it, and let the belligerent combatants find another soap box. Good for you Heather. I had considered closing the thread myself, but decided it would be inappropriate since I had taken an active part in the discussion at several points.

You know Bumper, you make a good point. But the thing is, there were close to 15,000 views and nearly 1,000 replies. Obviously it had a lot of interest so why close it? From what I could tell, no one was verbally abusing anyone. It really made for great discussion. It's just a shame to me that this board has become so heavy handed recently.

I wouldn't consider it heavy handed at all. One of my major concerns is for the impression it leaves with the newer members of the board. Those of us who have been around for a while are familiar with the "style" and presentation of the more experienced subscribers, and their personal agendas and philosophies. With that knowledge, we can choose to discount much of what is said, or ignore it altogether. Someone who does not have that degree of experience may take what is said at face value, and much of that is less than positive. As to the amount of interest shown in the thread in question, that can hardly come as a surprise to you. It's like a game of ping pong. Back and forth, with everyone reacting, some in a reasoned, logical manner, others on strictly emotional level. In any case, going nowhere.
