July 5th Update!!
The walls are finished except for one area which will be our temporary entrance for materials. And thanks to a lead from Tony & Cheri, we had a crew come out and clean up and haul away the major debris. There is still a good bit of work to do on the lot (still some rubbish and leveling out) but we might just have a clean-up party very soon to finish the job. This is the before: ![]() And this was today: ![]() We hope to have the materials here tomorrow for the kennel roofs (or is that rooves?) with work commencing the first of the week. Yeah...I know. ![]() And thanks everyone for an incredible July 4th fundraiser! And speaking of today at the shelter...here's my obligatory shot of Mimi:

Okay, so it's taken ages, but this is my first reply POST-arrival in Playa.
Anyways, upon the request of my mother (Jen) and on behalf of Andy, I'm writing up this quick update. As many of you know, there has been a swine of a stomach-bug been going around that has struck a lot of us, myself Jen and Andy included. This is why I'm writing this, for the past few days Andy has been suffering from the same thing that has hit us. Although he's on the mend now after evacuating a lot of liquids from his body (eww) he's still a little tender at the moment. Give is a day or so and he'll be back up and good to go again. Shelter-wise, things are lurching forward againand should be picking up significant momentum. The reason being that as of yeterday afternoon part of the wall of our front yard was finally knocked through to the new area beside the shelter and now the dogs have free access to it. Yay!! We finally have a little more breathing room. The dogs love the new place, digging and scrabbling their way through the over-growth and sniffing around the debris, not to mention the room to run around in. Come next saturady, I'm sure all you folks coming to the dog-wash will get the guided tour. Not that there's much to see right now, but it is fun to watch the dogs run around. Other than this more immediate news, we've had a few more additions to the shelter in the shape of Phoebe a young bitch and a mother and her 5 4-day-old puppies. And I think that's about it. The sun is beating down on me like crazy, I haven't eaten much today and the last thing I had to eat or drink last night was Mezcal and fried crickets. Take care for now! |

Sounds like great progress is being made on the shelter. Wish I could be there next Saturday for the dog wash. |
