Its just amazing what some people do to get money. They should be grateful they have a real job instead of living up to the reputations the government has. Even more proof not to trust the Mexican government and that is a shame.... Just a shame, that everyone knows that in order to get something done, or get out of a ticket... all you have to do is show a few dollars and they let you slide.... What a shame. Good for you Andy for not paying them off!

Well the good news is ...the builders are back and have been since tuesday, they have really gotton stuck in and the wall is 95% finished , they are beggining to lay the concrete slab that will be the base for the kennels and hopefully next week the roof will go up..thats where thier job finishes and mine (and any willing voulenteers) begins, i first need to source some inexpensive (but decent) fencing to build the runs and Kennel doors then i need to lay around 3 ton of wood chippings which hopefully will only take a week or so.
In case anyone has missed this, there will be a fundraiser at Bad Boys on 4th July and alongside this we are having a raffle to raise the $50,000 peso's needed to finish the project. Also there are still 7 kennels available for sponsorship if you know of anyone who may be interested Andy |

Thanks for updating this thread, Andy!! Very exciting news that construction is underway again!!
![]() I also want to take this opportunity to THANK the following peeps for co-sponsoring a kennel with me!!! Soo-z, Shamrock, Karona, and Laurab!! Thank you so much!!!! ![]() ![]() As Andy has indicated, there are still 7 kennels left to sponsor. If you cannot sponsor a whole kennel by yourself, consider co-sponsoring with other Peeps!! |

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!
After unexpected delays which should have been expected (do we sometimes forget where we live?), we are hopefully back on track with construction. There is still work to do on the walls and major cleanup of debris but we are now pouring the slabs for the kennels. Yay!! ![]() This is the wall adjacent to Andy & Jen's place. The dogs are hootin' and hollerin' on the other side, just waitin' to be let into their new space. At the end is the only shade and cover for the workers as it's been oppressively hot and humid lately...not to mention the severe thunderstorms we've had the last few days. ![]() This is the long wall. If the slope of the pad was not intentional, it works out great as it will help when the kennels are hosed out for cleaning. ![]() This is just an idea of the debris we have to move out. It's been a struggle to get this done. Damn good money has been offered but it still sits there. Hopefully next week...or the next. ![]() ![]() Another view looking at the long wall from the opposite side. ![]() The third and last slab was being worked on today. If they work tomorrow then that may be able to finish it early next week. Next week the posts and roof over the kennels will be started. And the block wall finished. And the debris moved out. And the door punched out into the A&J's place. And...and...and... It's coming along, people. Andy and Jen....I know it's been painful...but it's happening!! Keep those cards and letters and cash coming in folks!!! |

Hi Rick,
You are doing a wonderful job supervising (and designing) this project! The space is shaping quite well. I can envision how nice it will be when completed. Excellent news about the slant on the concrete!! Thank you, Rick for your expertise, committment, dedication & hard work on the Shelter!! I can only imagine how many "mananas" you've heard.......as my husband & I know....building in Playa can be a real trip! THANK YOU! Maureen |
