The Future Is Now - The New Peanut Pet Shelter
After months of waiting for options to come to fruition, only to be disappointed, we are finally getting ready to break ground on the new kennels for the Peanut Pet Shelter.
As many of you know, the existing shelter is located in Andy and Jen’s house and it’s time to give them their house back and build a proper shelter for the pups. The new shelter will be built on a vacant lot adjacent to Andy and Jen’s house. This is what it looks like right now: ![]() The street level view doesn’t do justice to the amount of trash on this lot ![]() ![]() Once the lot is cleared and leveled, we will begin construction. Footings and foundations will be dug and an eight foot block wall surrounding the property will be built. For security reasons, the only access will be directly into the Andy and Jen’s property. Once the walls are up, a concrete slab will be poured for the kennels. No more sleeping in dirt or in the kitchen . This slab will be entirely covered by a roof to protect the pups from the elements. Below is the plan view and a section view of the kennels. This plan will allow for 26 pens with most being 7 feet by 10 feet – nice and large.![]() ![]() Phase 1 only includes the wall, slab and roof over the kennels. Phase 2 will be to build and install dividers and gates for the kennels, fencing and gates for two very large dog runs, a play area for kids and puppies and any plumbing or lighting deemed necessary. We’ve priced this through several contractors (due to immigration laws, we are not allowed to do any of the work ourselves…at least until the walls are up ) The best price we now have for Phase 1 is $11,500 USD. That’s a lot of money (although it is what we consider a very fair price), but it will be a huge step towards making the Peanut Pet Shelter what it deserves to be. Speaking of money…and we all knew this was coming. We need money. This shelter offers spay and neutering of the pups coming in. This shelter pays for all vaccinations. This shelter pays for all treatment for injured and diseased dogs. These dogs are re-homed at no cost to the new owners. The shelter has been able to provide these services due to the generosity of many many people. People have offered money, medications, and countless hours of volunteer work. And we all know (or should know) that the Peanut Shelter IS Andy and Jen. One idea for raising funds is to attempt to get businesses or individuals to sponsor an individual kennel. Any amount is appreciated but we hope to raise $500usd per kennel. This would completely pay for Phase 1 and put a nice down payment on Phase 2. For each sponsorship we would mount a “plaque” showing our appreciation. Something like this…maybe different…but something like this. (These are examples…we’d love to actually have them as sponsors) ![]() ![]() If you can't sponsor a kennel, we would be more than happy to accept any donation no matter how small. Every little bit greatly helps. These are exciting times for the Peanut Pet Shelter. They can offer great accommodations for the pups and most importantly we can give Andy and Jen their home back. They deserve to have a home that they can enjoy peacefully, cleanly and stress free. Imagine a home were it's nearly impossible to relax. At the present, they have close to fifty dogs they are caring for. (I’ll be taking volunteers for a home makeover later )Just so you know…we have enough to get started on Phase 1, so ground breaks this week (hopefully). We don’t have enough to pay the total at the end, but that’s between us, okay? Oh…and isn’t this the cutest thing? Blatant attempt to tug at heart strings ![]() If you wish to donate to the Peanut Animal Shelter please go to www.paypal.com click send money tab type in peanutpetshelter at gmail dot com (don't type "at" and "dot" people )Peanut Shelter Website Click Here for the original Peanut Pet Shelter Thread Stay tuned for this space as we record the progress of the New Peanut Pet Shelter & Kennels! |

I spoke with Andy during our last trip to PDC about a dog we sort of adopted and for whom we felt sorry. Though he intially said he had no room fo another dog, Andy came through by offering to move a few things around and make some room for my new friend. As it turned out, we found an alternate soultion and did not need Andy's help. But he was quick to offer it and asked nothing in return.
And he never once mentioned that these lost souls share their home with them! Maybe I don't follow the Peanut Shelter threads as closely as I should, but I had no idea they lived in your home with you Andy. Knowing that makes what you are doing down there even more of a work of the heart. You guys most certainly deserve a decent facility from which to continue and expand your work. And I am happy to make another contribution to such a wonderful cause (and two such giving people). |
