1996 photos
Here is a picture of the beach in Playa from back in 1996. As you can see El Faro was already there.
![]() Here is the beach looking North where Porte Real will be in a couple of years.. ![]() This is North beach.... No Mamitas yet.. ![]() We drove up the coast and found a beach called Excacel ![]() You could camp there for $3.00 us a night ![]() You take this path to get to the cenote there. ![]() Here is the cenote at Excacel. There were hundreds of tiny black fish.. ![]() This is the beach looking North. ![]() We also took a trip to Uxmal. Fabulous ruins.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Things have changed alot, but I still love it!!!!!! ![]() Sorry about the quality of the pictures. They are digital photos taken from an old photo album. ![]() |

My first trip to PDC was in 1989 and there was very little to speak of even then. 5th ave ended around what is now Calle 18 ... after that it was jungle. ANd it was kind of scary to venture too far from 5th Ave. Not too long ago there was no 1st Ave ... just jungle along the beach. Seems to me that in 1968 it would have been a good place to play Lewis and Clark, but my bedtime was around 7 pm back then. |

. THat trip was anything but creapy. Adventurous, fun, exciting, but definately not creapy,,,,,, I did have a creapy experience in the ruins of Pelenque early one morning.. I was alone on top of one of the piramids, I couldn't see any other people around and the howler monkeys started there cries. They have a very creapy howl!!! Kind of what I would imagine a big foot might sound like....![]() |

There was no Cancun. It was almost a trail to Tulum. I asked a friend of mine who was on one of these trips if she remembered PDC. Neither of us remember amything about it. We stayed with the lighthouse keeper at Tulum and from what I understand the lighthouse is gone. I's exciting to return after all these years, but from what I have seen, it may be the last time.
As to Palenque, when I first visited there was no one there. We did what hippie's did down in the tomb... It doesn't seem that long ago; but I guess it was. I was lucky! |
