What an awesome thread! I've been strolling down memory lane. I have every 45 I ever bought, except for the few that might have gotten too scratched from overuse and a dirty record player needle. (Remember those?
Yep, I'm old enough.)I was incredibly anal about cataloging and organizing my 45s, so I can tell you that 1970 was the big year for me... My first 5 45s in order were:

Yup! The other early one I bought was Kiss - "Beth" on one side and "Detroit Rock City" on the other one. As a girl that sang aloud to "You Light Up My Life," you can imagine which one of these two songs I liked, and which one I thought sucked. Funny - I've changed my mind, now.

It is so funny that my kids have never even seen a vinyl record or a record player ... (or a film camera). Heck, they don't even have a cd player or CD's. They are on their third generation of IPOD and their second digital camera's. True products of the digital age.
But I can't help feeling as though they are missing out on something. Maybe my weird sense of nostalgia. Last edited by FrankRN : 05-09-2008 at 10:18 PM. |

I can't remember the first one I bought for ME....I bought so many at K-mart and Woolworths. They were cheap and next to the perfume. *Tigress perfume* Oh man, the memories or trying to be older....
I was a music nut, even young. I DO remember buying one for my sister. I was about 8 and we were visiting Toronto. She wanted Cat Stevens. All I could find was Peace Train. She was so disappointed. I was so sad that I disappointed her. We have tons of music in the house and STILL have a turn table and that wee bit you stuck in the middle to make the 45 fit. **sigh** |
