Whatcha Doin' For Your Mama?
How do you give your mom a happy Mother's Day?
I am here with mine in Ohio (for one thing) and will do what makes her happy, ie: going to church with her (oh, the horror! ) and taking her to lunch at Red Lobster (her choice... my choice is closed on Sundays... what's that about? ). I'm also giving her a couple small framed photos and a nice card saying how proud I am to be her daughter. Amazingly enough, all it says is true. She's made me crazy at times, and still does to some extent, but at 85-years-old, none of that matters anymore. So tomorrow will be all about her. |

That's sweet, Susie. I'm sure your mom loves having you there for Mother's Day.
My mom is in Oklahoma, so none of us will be with her. We were all together last weekend for Ryan's confirmation and two weekends in a row to get together is tough. So I sent her some warm fuzzy slippers (she has a thing for slippers--this COULD be genetic ) and a card and I will call her and not say enough of the right things but it will be fine. |

What a great story Susie! My grandparents (except for 1) are all 85 or older, so we have the same attitude. We spend time with them whenever we can.
Mom, along with Dad and sister are coming over for dinner. We went to Whole Foods and picked up some lemon-herb halibut patties that we'll either grill or fry. Dad has a cake and some flowers (we'll get some additional flowers) and a card! |

I will call my mother. She is 80.....or 79,
I was out there in October, when her husband died. She is doing real well - had been a caretaker for the last decade of his life and she had typical caretaker reacions - relief, guilt at relief, sense of a loss of a job (caretaking), and the whole range of complex emotions that can be involved. Mom is the woman who made me aware of the South Beach Diet, also got a copy of the South Beach Diet Quick and Easy Recipe book. Here is what she wrote: ************ I have had a wonderful day today and partly because of you all. I slept until 9:30, around 10:30 I fixed simplified Egg Benedict and asparagus for brunch. Took a soaking bath in lemon oil and washed my hair. Had a 20 minutes 'chair massage'. Bought a few treats, on sale, at the health food store. That is where the chair massage is on Sat. afternoon. When I got home I put on the CD of Frank Sinatra's Love Songs and cooked page 173! I just finished eating and it was delicious. I made the whole recipe and have 3 servings in the freezer! I like doing that. I will enjoy the cook book you sent. Just needed a 'special someone' here! I had thoughts of that, too! ***** Pretty cool for a woman of her age. I think the someone special special phrase may refer to her offspring, but I think it is more likely that she is ready to date ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I speak to my Mom pretty much daily....she is in Florida...we sent her an opal bracelet and opal earrings and a card of course.....hopefully, it will make the pain of the recent fall she took just a little less aggravating.
![]() I can't be with her this year as Linda is in Spain and I am taking care of things here, that really need taking care of.....she knows I love her "big as the sky" ![]() I will be visiting with 750 other Mom's and their guests here tomorrow for dinner. I'll still be missing my Mom.![]() |

My Mom is having a really hard time since my Dad died, so we had our mothers day party today. Sunday morning my brother is taking her out to brunch and Sunday evening another brother is bringing her dinner so this way she can spread out the "fun" all weekend and wont be alone.
I got my Mom two water lillys for the koi pond. This was my Dads pond so we all enjoy keeping it up and looking nice for her. |

I'm taking my Mom, who is almost 85, to a new (new to me anyway) Italian place nearby. I've heard the food is good, so I'm anxious to try it. She told me to pick the restaurant, so I hope she likes it. It will just be the two of us since Tim is in Florida visiting his folks.

My mom passed away in '04, but Steve's mom is still with us. She is 85, actually she is the only parent we have left. Tomorrow after church we are going with my husband's cousins family, to a restaurant in downtown Baltimore for brunch. After that we're coming back to my house to watch I'm Not There (the Bob Dylan movie). Steve's mom will be too tired by then, so she probably won't come back to the house.

Today is my birthday and I always get a little crabby since my birthday is so close to Mother's Day ( next year right on the day) . My daughter had two hockey games today but I managed to squeeze in a very nice lunch with my Mom to celebrate both my birthday and Mothers Day............we had a great time!!!
I think at this point in life, to have the time for just my Mom and I is very special..............no more big family gatherings............... Have a great day tomorrow everyone........................ |

My mom has finally semi-embraced technology. She loves the IPOD we gave her and uses it on her daily walks. I loaded some music on it for her, but she is pretty sick of listening to the same songs. I've tried to teach her how to steal music off of the internet like the rest of the world, but she is too skeered. So I got her a large denomination I-Tunes gift card for mothers day.
At least now I will personally know at least one person who came by their music collection legally. |

Today is my Mom's birthday. Erik and I stopped by after I got done working with a client, and did what my Mom loves the best. Just sitting and talking about everything and nothing. What is most important to her is to feel like a vital part of all of our lives, and she is. I made her a pair of earrings for her birthday, and a bracelet for Mother's day. We aren't allowed to buy her gifts any longer, so that's my work around
And we took her grand doggy Tasha along for a bit of spoiling. |
