Iberostar Tucan - arrival 9/7
Ok, after all the debate, we've finally booked. We decided on the Iberostar Tucan, basically because the price that Apple was offering was unbelievable, and I couldn't find many bad things mentioned in reviews of this place.
So yay! We're arriving Sunday, 9/7, for 7 well needed nights. |

I will be going to I* Tucan Sep 23-28 and thought I got a good deal with Apple $1716.00 for two and that includes transfer and insurance. Sounds like I could of got two more days for the same price. The isurance is 49 per person.

Don't forget - where you are leaving from, and the dates, all play into the price. We were flexible, so went for the cheapest (which happened to be the latest date we could travel this time). We got prices that varied as much as $200 depending on dates.

Lust4Travel,
You are making me feel like I got ripped off. We booked through Apple, 9/05 through 09/15 and we are paying about $1500 per person with insurance. Granted we are leaving out of Chicago and we are staying for 10 nights but it is almost double! We booked really early since we are traveling w/ 20+ people for a wedding. I guess we will be there at the same time. If our large group is obnoxious I will apoligize to you in advance, we will try to behave. KK |

I'm feeling like I got a little ripped too, but hopefully it will be well worth it anyway. If you really think about it, $1200 each (from Boston) for 8 nights at an AI is not even close to comparable as, say Bermuda or St. Thomas. After hearing $800 bucks though, DAMN is all I can say, you got a good freaking deal. As long as we all enjoy it, it's worth every damn penny.

Oh, now I feel bad! :o
But anyone can do this! We got this deal because it was one of the advertised last minute newspaper bargains through Apple - and we just booked/confirmed yesterday, not months and months ago. We took a chance on prices going down because we didn't care where we stayed, as long as it was in Playa. Last minute travel via Apple's "Sizzlin' Specials" ( http://www.applevacations.com/servlet/SiteController/specials/specials1.jsp ) and "Last Minute Deals" is how we got it. We HAD to go on 9/7 for this price, and for 7 nights. Not a lot of options. . . We got lucky! Obviously you can't be flexible for weddings, or if you are planning in advance. In our case, my hubby was in between jobs and not starting until mid-September, so we basically told the travel agency to find us the best resort for the best price, and tell us what the dates were. Apple sells off what they didn't book previously, for a cut rate. The plane's already chartered, so there might as well be someone on it. This can net you great savings if you can vacation with just a few weeks notice. The Chicago wedding party sounds like a blast! Be as obnoxious as you'd like . . . just save me a place at the pool bar after lunch. |

Tucan
Lust4Travel.
We were at the Tucan two years ago and there was not a pool bar back then so I am excited to check it out. I saw some great pictures @ www.iberostar.net it is an unofficial web site. The last time we were there on 9/11 which made the tail end of our trip very sad. We did not let the date deter us from going during the same week, and my friends have planned their wedding day on 9/11. Hope you have a great trip and maybe I will bump into you at the pool bar. 9/11
9/11 is also my birthday, and 9/12 of this year is my sister's wedding date also. Although tragedy occured in 2001, the victims would rather us celebrate life rather than spend our time mourning them. I am in no way at all shining any type of light on that particular day, but to go as a memorial of sorts for you is cool, and kind of brave. I comend that so congrats to you and your sister and both of you have a blast on your trips!
