Transportation from Xcaret at end of show
I have another Xcaret question
We plan to take some sort of public transportation to Xcaret. Since the big evening show doesn't end until about 9:30 pm, can we expect to find taxis outside of the park waiting for fares? Or should be plan better than this? Here is the transportation info I found on their website:"From Playa del Carmen You can take a taxi from Playa del Carmen to Xcaret at a cost of about US $15.00 for the 15-minute ride. If you rent a car in Playa del Carmen you can enter and leave the park as many times as you want on the same day of your visit. Or take public transportation from Playa del Carmen. Autobuses Riviera Bus Line Departures at 9:30 AM and 10:20 AM only. Rates: US $5.00 per persona round trip* Return at 3:15 PM and 8:45 PM only. Arrival and Departure at Xcaret’s main gate. Autobuses Maya Bus Line Leaving every hour from 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Rate per person: US $3.00 The buses will leave you on the highway, one-half mile from Xcaret’s main gate. A small bus called the “Despeinado” provides shuttle service from the highway to the main gate. It leaves every 30 minutes from 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM. Service is free." |

We did not go the AI option or have the dinner seating. We thought it was pretty expensive for the basic options and it's even more now. For us, it was fine to go with the basic package but lots of people like the AI option so I guess it depends on your personal needs. BTW, we also really loved the butterfly enclosure and display. Have fun!

Buy the AI package. It was $99 an adult at the gate which gave you buffet lunch (open from 12-6 so technically could be dinner) & a coupon for 1 beer or a water or pop & a bag of chips. The buffet to buy seperately was $31! Yikes! I would not pay extra for the dinner at the show. Get there early for the show & you will get a great seat!

I've read that if you watch the ballgame, then head to the theatre for the show it can be hard to find a good seat. I wouldn't think you'd want to skip the ballgame (we've actually seen it and it's interesting, esp. if you plan to visit Chichen Itza and see the ballfield) to get to the theatre early.
Does this make it worthwhile to purchase the evening dinner package? Also, does anyone know if we do purchase the evening meal, do they have an alternative to the seafood choices for me (who is allergic to shrimp) as well as daughter, who doesn't like seafood? We never do the all-inclusive package at Xcaret (we've been 7 times, just haven't seen the evening show). We always eat at the restaurant out on the point and have never paid $31 pp for our meal. Most entrees are in the $15 range. They make nice big drinks, also! We get enough of buffets at the resort. We also carry a few water bottles from the resort, then buy a beer ($2) if we want one later on while lounging in the hammocks out on the point by the turtles. |

Thanks so much for your replies about the AI option!
Xcaret "Plus" costs $30 more than general admission. Here is what you get. I have listed the price if you purchase these things ala carte: 1 buffet meal with lemonades and coffee ($31) 2 coupons valid for 2 sodas or 2 bottles of water or 1 beer or 2 chips (don't know price) full snorkel equipment ($10) towel ($3) locker ($2) exlusive use of the "Plus Area" 10% off all water activities except dolphins So if you were going to do the buffet anyway, it is worth it because you get at least $46 worth of stuff for $30. But if you are not planning to eat the buffet and you bring your own snorkel equipment and towel, then it isn't worth it. We are bringing towels, but we do not own snorkel equipment. Hmmm ... decisions, decisions ....
