Smile All Inclusive First Timers.....

Hey folks,

Just reading all the threads on this forum has helped me a fair bit in preparing for the first AI trip my girlfriend and I have been on. We are going, of course, to the Playa area (Sandos Caracol) from May 17 - 24, 2008.

Being newbies.....can anyone help me? What are things we should bring with us in terms of toiletries, etc? Are shampoo, soap, etc included with our room?

Thanks in advance.

Toiletries

I can't speak specifically for that resort, but overall I would probally at least bring my own shampoo, cond., and toothpaste. Even if the Resort does provide these essentials, they may not meet your expectations.

We have been there, they furnish all. And I am no fashion model, very low maintenance so all was fine with me! Take a insulated mug for the beach, no beach towel, they are provided. Good walking shoes, the resort is huge. Bring your own sunscreen, it is expensive on the resort as most gift shops.

Water band aids & a make shift first aid kit to fit your own needs! Trust me here. And for myself I take the pre packaged pickle relish condiments for hot dogs since you can not get pickle relish at any resort. ( Kind of stupid I know Just trying to help) Also consider a hair blow dryer. As for my wife and our girls, they hate the resort dryer's as they are very week. This will save them a lot of time getting ready.
Just a little something someone may not think of until they get back home and say .. Next time I would bring???
Have a great trip ... KC

In terms of toiletries ... hmm ... I always bring Pepto Bismal because I end up drinking more alcohol and eating more food at AI's which invariably means my digestive system gets a bit out of whack.
You probably didn't need to hear this, but I have to see my ticker today, which will say how many days to my lift off!!

things to pack

Always pack a roll of the TP I use at home. Just in case you get a little 'ruint from over eating, drinking or a bug..... your butt will thank you later.

Bring cough drops, and basic medicine in case you catch a cold. I had a sore throat the first 2 days and was miserable until we hit the pharmacy.

Zicam is great for the first signs of a cold! I usually don't go the herbal way, but if you feel a sore throat coming, start it, take it every four hours, and you can keep the cold away. I always pack it to bring it with me. That some sun, some tequila, and bye bye cold!

Well being a soon to be "newbie" myself (my trip is coming up June 1st)....I have heard to either wear (for the ladies I'm going to say under your sundress, etc) your bathing suit onto the plane. I have heard from several of my friends that if you arrive at your resort early your room may NOT be ready!! Apparently check in at several of the resorts is not until 3pm so if you arrive prior to that you basically have nothing to do so it would be wise to either take your swim wear in your carry on so that you can just go directly to the pool bar until your room is ready. I have also heard that if you like to lay out on a float you should buy a cheap one and pack it in your luggage because apparently they are hard to find and very expensive.
Hope this helps a little?!?!!

Do the Walmart, Chedraui or Mega sell pool floats? I bought cheap snorkel equipment at the Playa Walmart. And if I remember, they had pretty much the same personal care items that the West Valley City, Utah Walmart has.

But then the taxi ride from the Caracol into Playa would cost more than the pool float itself.

Maybe the colectivos go by the Caracol and into Playa?

Richie, did you choose your username after the city in Orange County, CA?
