boat from texas to mexico?

does anyone know of a boat that will take me and my stuff from texas to mexico?
i'm moving to playa and am thinking that a boat trip would be way cooler than driving. i know there are cruises from galveston to cozumel but they have luggage restrictions. any ideas?

Its basically the same as the airlines. 2 checked pieces not to exceed 50 lbs
and 2 carry ons. There is no excess permitted. You will also have to pay the round trip charge, and clear Mexican Immigration and Customs once you dis-embark. This is from Carnival Cruise Lines. I do not know what the others charge or accept. Good luck.

maybe the toobin regatta can float the rio grande this year and then you'd have a cheap and easy trip by "boat" to mexico.

thanks jevans, what a great idea. we got .16 of a centimeter of rain today so your plan just might work. damn i cant wait to get out of this desert
i was thinking of a boat other than a cruise line to avoid the baggage restrictions. there has to be something i just don't know where to look. does anyone have any leads at all?

If there was one, we'd all be taking it. I think driving is your only feasible option.

EDIT: And it hasn't rained here in the past couple months to speak of.

I've always wondered: what would happen if one took a cruise ship "one way"-that's to say disembarked in Mexico and didn't get back on the boat?

You may want to check out this link Hispanic PR Wire - CANCUN CVB HAILS NEW FLORIDA-YUCATAN FERRY AS CATALYST FOR TOURISM AND TRADE It's a ferry service from Florida to Cancun, you can even bring your car and the trip takes 36 hours. If it's still operating it may worth looking into.

I am not sure, but I don't think the Yucatan Express is in service any longer. It started in 2002. I remember reading on this board a while back talking about the Yucatan Express and that it is no longer in service. If it was, I would take the boat. Sounds like a nice way to get there. Boat there, fly home.

The article linked to about the ferry was from Nov. 2002 It's a nice thought, but still just a dream!

this was from april, 2006...a ferry from tampa to progresso. don't know if it ever ran or not.

http://www.theshuttle.com/page/page/2721811.htm

there was another one from corpus christi to veracruz and louisiana to veracruz that were talked about but no websites. don't know if they ever got running either.

sounds like this one didn't make it.
