Okay, I can't help it. I'm really getting depressed about this resort now. It just seems that it's going downhill fast. Isn't there anything that can be done? I thought this Princess chain was top notch.
If anyone has any recent good news to report, could you please comfort the disheartened. |

Believe me the resort is not horrible. It is very beautiful. What is most important to me on vacation is food and to me most of it was just ok and some was really good. Food may not matter as much to you so that can change your experience. If they do run out of towels ask a worker to get you some and they will. As far running out of ice or beer I can't tell you what to do about that. I do know that Platinum has better selection of alcohol according to another guest so I bet they didn't run out of beer in there. I still had a good time as did my family. It just was not as good as other vacations I have had.

Linnysue,
We were at GSP 4-30 thru 5-5 and just missed the "No beer on tap" problem. We stayed in a Jr Dlx swim out suite and loved our room. We were in room 3024 and thought it to be in a great location. The little issues we had were no big deal and we had a great time. We arrived on a Wednesday and had empty rooms on both sides of us. By Friday, we could tell a lot more people were there, mainly by the little longer lines in the buffet. But we still did not think it was bad. So, we may have been lucky in our timing, but for us and other people we had talked to, everyone seemed pleased and somewhat surprised that everything was as nice as it was. I say, go and have a great time. We are very glad we went. If I can answer any questions for you, ask away. Rhonda |

We leave on May17, first time traveling with my kids 4 and 7, staying on the Sunset side and I'm not worried about anything. Why...... because I'll be there and not here and if any issues do arise I will deal with them and not let it bother me. I can say that no matter what happens my kids will not really care. Why......because they will be there and not here, get the drift. Anyways when I get back I'm hoping to do my first trip report.
5 sleeps and we are off. Cheers |

We were booked at the GRP from November of last year to March/April of this year for our June 10-night stay. The bad reviews got to us, even though we had booked Platinum, so we switched (and are now going to the Riu Palace Riviera Maya, which only cost us $300 more). Our vacations are few and far between, and it's not worth paying anything for a vacation when you have to worry about whether or not it will meet your basic expectations. Sure, we'll have a good time no matter where we are, but this place appears to have too many kinks still left to work out for me to stress and worry about, or to deal with while on vacation.
In regards to the beer; do you think they had cash flow problems with their keg supplier, thus having to run out and buy cases of cans? Or perhaps an ordering problem? You'd think if they unexpectedly ran out, they'd be able to call and beg a special keg delivery from their supplier. Seems strange that they'd be out more than a day or so. |

I've been checking funjet.com daily to see if we can switch, but the prices are not what they originally post. They change within seconds and then it ends up beyond our budget.
We're stuck with this resort it seems. |

That's what I have done.I am arriving July 1st with a group of 14, most of which have never vacationed at an AI or in Mexico. We got a great price and it will be wonderful to be with family and friends, not at work, not cooking, not cleaning ... well, you get the idea ![]() Don't worry too much and just look forward to your trip! |

We also used Funjet. I called to change, and their price was different (more) than online price. I told them I wanted the online price, told them what it was, and they gave it to me. Also shop around for other places (vacmart has low prices) and use that when you talk to them. You may need to fax it to them, but they should match it. Good luck!

I, too, have read the beer and other issues problem at GSP on the TA forum. Not only did they run out of tap beer, but can beer was warm. I believe the posters are emailing management. I have read many different reviews on GSP, more negative than positive and not just picky obnoxious people. It sounds to me that they have serious management issues and can't handle crowds. One can only hope that for a beautiful resort they will get things fixed. I read the weirdest one about the poster who gave tips on what to do if you get the sewer smell. I would have just requested another room!

We have cancellation insurance, and only booked the land portion with them. Perhaps that's why they were accommodating. I just know that the online price was about $180/room (we have 2) less than what they told me over the phone when I called to change. I just told them what online showed and offered to fax it to them. They just changed it.
It's weird about the beer. Also about the inconsistent reviews. I also agree that it's not just first-timers or people with too high expectations that are giving the resort bad reviews. I think that with time, this place will be nice. But they have alot to overcome after their shaky start. |
