Beach info for Iberostar Tucan
Ok......I'm getting a little freaked out about this whole beach erosion thing!! If I'm understanding this correctly the Tucan doesn't appear to be having the same issues as the Quetzal?!?!?! Am I understanding this correctly? We're staying at the Tucan and I have a kiddo that is going to want to play in the sand......A LOT
so I'm hoping all is well at this resort!!Also.......what is the best plan of action in regards to carrying cash, travelers checks or just using my credit cards? Sorry to sound so stupid but I haven't been on vacation there since my early 20's and that was LONG ago and I know a lot has changed. Any advice in this area????? Any info is appreciated at this point......... Last edited by GoSpursGo : 05-14-2008 at 02:14 PM. |

Here is a trip report from a couple who just got back from the IB Tucan/Quetzal and they have stunning pictures, including of the beach:
http://www.playa.info/playa-del-carm...n-quetzal.html I only carry cash and credit card, never traveller's cheques. I like cash for tipping so I have about 50 one dollar bills and some fives/tens for bellboys, cab drivers, tour guides. I also like some cash for shopping for gifts or maybe a ferry ride to Cozumel. Everything else (tours, park admissions or expensive purchases...VISA) If you click on Search at the top of the page, you can enter Iberostar Tucan and all posts related to this resort will come up. |

I've wandered in the back streets of Playa and Tulum with all my camera gear and never felt I was in any danger of having it stolen. I've used the camera and changed lenses on the beach in the wind and sand never seemed to be an issue. Basically, I've personally never had a major problem bringing and using my camera. Well, except for the two times when I dropped pieces of equipment to the pavement and smashed them to bits but that's another story. You bought the camera to take pictures and what better place to take great pictures than in the Riviera Maya. So my advice is take your new camera with you and snap away ![]() Just remember to take the same precautions you would at home walking around with an expensive camera and you should have no problems. Hope this helps ![]() |

Hmmm, Bad Boys on Friday night. I don't know if I'll be able to because I am with my 75 year old mother. It's awfully tempting though ... If you see a tall short haired blond with pink toenails and finger nails...that's me!
![]() K, this is my very last post. I am boarding a plane for Edmonton in 45 minutes and then off to Cancun tomorrow. Bye everyone. I'll be in touch in 2 weeks! ![]() |

credit cards
You might want to call your credit card company and tell them you are going to be using it in Mexico and the dates so when charges appear from out of the country, they are not flagged as fraud or declined. Also, if you have a user on your account who is staying in US during those dates, I would tell them that too, so if charges occur in Mex. and US too, they know that's ok. One user forgot to tell her ccard co. that her husband was staying in the US while she was in Mex. so when he went to use it, it was flagged. That way you don't have to worry about them being concerned about fraud or having to spend lots $ and time on fone to ccard company fm Mexico. That's what I do.
I clear out my wallet and only take the one or two cards I need. I photo copy front and back (bc that is where the 800 #'s are) and leave a copy of the cards, my drivers license, and my passport with a family member stateside so if I run into trouble, I know who to call and if my passport gets stolen, I can get them to fax me a copy. I keep my cell phone and all valuables, medicine, camera in the room safe when I am not using them. |

GO SPURS GO Yes, the SPURS WON TONIGHT. And yes, take plenty of ones for tips, we always use our credit card for tours, cash for everything else. Have a great time, don't think we will be making a trip this year.
