re
Perry,
We stayed in this hotel in Feb08, the hotel is great rooms good, big pool food is good, staff good, you can also use the other RIU hotels as much as you like, but not the 2 RIU palace hotels. The beach in playacar has been hurricane damaged and is not quite the same beach as a few years back. In this hotel there is some damage to the bank at the sea front, some has collapsed. They are recovering this slowly. There is still plenty of room to use beach so dont worry, they have put huge sand bags out in the sea to act as a breakwater and to collect the sands from being washed away. The hotel is on the beach side of road unlike the riu tequila which is accross the road and the lupita further inland across golf course. Try looking on google earth, although not up to date it may give you some idea of beach front space. regards J |

Haven't stayed at the RY so can't say about service. However, we were at the RPRM in April, and there are pictures of the beach in front of Yucatan in my trip report.
Also, you might check out the reviews on tripadvisor Hope this helps. Last edited by TeeZet : 05-19-2008 at 05:20 PM. Reason: remove link |

I stayed at the Yucatan 2 years ago and it was FANTASTIC! I was at her sister hotel last year, the Tequila, and am leaving tomorrow for another stay at the Tequila. I have read numerous reports about the beach condiditons, and how they are better some days and worse others. Very recent pictures appear to show conditions better than they were a year ago, so I'll make sure to bring back even more recent pictures of the Yucatan beach for you...

I´m in the Riu Palace Mexico at the moment the the Hotel beaches either side of us are taking a pounding palm trees in the water over night, panic stations and sandbags as well as the large sandbag beach whales but it´s red hot and getting hotter and the beer is cold so not all bad then.
