Wow, I guess I didn't know that you two really didn't like each other, I thought it was just a "thing" on the politics threads.
Steve, I would like to know if you can confirm or deny what Claudia's posted, so when you find out for sure, I'd appreciate if you could post it...I know you've been in the business for a lot of years and I value your information. I think it will be useful for all. ![]() |

I will be happy to.
![]() Claudia may well be right, but if so, I tend to think it won't make a lot of difference to visitors in practical terms, as it would then seem to me that officials must be happy to ignore the letter of the law on that point, based as I say on what we've seen of their zeal on other points (but never that one). So again, I wouldn't assume a bill with the tax added indicates the place is trying to cheat you. But I'll happily post anything more I find out, as I'm sure will Claudia! Steve |

All I will post for now is that I have the highest respect for Steve and Delmy both as friends and business owners, and that I might have missunderstood as well, I just pm'd Steve with some comments and the source of my information and I am sure that on Monday we will have an informed post a little more clear than mud, more like chocolate milkshake.
Then, if I am wrong I will be very embarassed since I cannot even blame it on the language but I am sure I will come up with some smart sounding apology after all novodi is purfektt |

staying on point here.... Suzie - thanks for the reminder. I was with a group of 10 or so people at the place with live music that is right next to Posado Freud and not only did they itemize the bill (with lots of extra drinks) but then they totalled it and circled a grand total that we owed that was 200 or so pesos above what the sum total of the drinks was. Luckily after we caught the extra items on the bill, we didn't just deduct them from the total. I checked the addition and discovered the second error. Then they wanted to charge us a 15% surcharge to use a credit card (is this normal?).
Are there any tricks to getting a fair pour in the drinks? I swear some of my vodka tonics were just tonic.... perhaps I am finally numb to alcohol and can't tell the difference. |

I plan on paying all in Peso's for any of our puchases when we wander off the resort and paying for each round of drinks when we get them. Hopefully this will lead to less billing errors because i hear this is quite common for the area. I also will carry a notepad and write down what each item costs for comparison to the final bill. If they want to tack on a few dollers here and there thats fine if its not much in total, just dont expect any tip at all.

We love you too, Claudia!
![]() Just FYI, when we tried getting an answer via phone from Profeco on this point, nobody we talked to would even give us one. They said they were sending us a packet of information. ![]() But again, a place that lists prices and notes that 10% sales tax (IVA) will be added, and then does that, is not trying to cheat you (whether it turns out that they are technically in violation of some seldom enforced aspect of consumer protection law for not listing prices with that tax already calculated in or not). For purposes of this particular point and visitors to Playa, the key (as with tips) will be to ask or read the menu carefully or pay attention to relevant signage, in order to know what you're getting into and what will be charged. Like you should do before getting in a taxi, for example. In other words, like Susie says, be aware. ![]() Steve Last edited by ryberg : 05-20-2008 at 06:46 PM. |

FWIW...
I have met, know, and really like both Steve and Claudia. (I've previously left my son with Claudia and left my wife and daughter with Steve!) That being said, I think the issue should be settled with a taser duel. Videotaped and posted on playa.info, of course. |
