I really don't trust any silver on 5th. If you want good stuff go down 307 to Lapis. And don't pay the price they ask. You can get it for about half. They depend on the tourist ships. There have got to be some good places in Playa, but I would ask Heather, she "knows people"

My son got taken for about $100 worth of "silver" at Chichen Itza. He was told by the guy who sold us the tour that things were way cheaper over that way, so he got sucked in. Beautiful necklace he bought for himself..... for about two days. Before we even got home it had turned green and you could see the copper or whatever metal it is.
I was told by someone reputable on Isla Mujeres that there needs to be two stamps on the silver.... one with the .925 (or whatever the number is), and the other stamp their shop stamp. Who ever knows? It all looks pretty. I guess the best thing is to listen to the folks who have bought and gotten screwed, and those that know who may be reputable. The reputable folks will tell you that they have their reputation to protect, and don't normally bargain that much. |
