Thanks! Major sell out but a cute one!
ET would be his job! I liked him better when he sang for a living! My favorites of theirs is "personal space invader"!
I'm off to bed for now! Have a great night!

Oh, Maggie...you have to remember you've only just gotten your internet at home. This video, while as brilliant as it is disturbing, is MONTHS old.

Sad Heather.

P.S. They are raping my youth with this crap.

gotta go with Metallica on this one.... but I didn't even know this was a remake.
I had no idea there were rock versions of this song.

It's traditional. Here's sorta the way I've heard it.

The Dubliners & the Pogues - Whiskey in the jar

Not much in the way of song writing. The late 60s and early 70s were sort of a Rennaissance period for rock and pop....

Most of what's being written now sux. The bands may have new electronic ways of making sounds, but nobody seems to be writing interesting, original tunes.

I like the Cash version best.

Johnny Cash made that song his own. His version was so haunting, it was as if he knew his time was running out.

Absolutely, positively, one of my favorite songs, ever.

I can't hear this song without thinking about skateboards, pop rocks candy, the movie "Bad News Bears in Breaking Training," and holding (sweaty) hands with a pretty girl with long feathered hair during "couples skate."

Jesus Maggie - two posts in and I'm loving this thread already!

Reznor may have written the original, but...

When a guy like Johnny Cash remakes your song, you just better get ready to "sit back and watch how its done!"

This is officially my favorite thread on PI right now. I've got a couple of compare and contrast remakes I'm going to add in a bit.

I was trying to find video for the one song where I love the original, but appreciate the remake even more. Its Lou Reed's "Perfect Day." I couldn't find a video for the original recording, but here it is set to the movie, Trainspotting (Side Note - one of my favorite films of all time):

Beautiful song, right?

Well, check out this remake done by the BBC with "various artists." Normally I don't like the "various artist" tribute type remakes, but... This one emotionally brings me to my knees every time I hear it. Beautiful song remade by beautiful voices that truly seem inspired by the love of this "perfect" song:
